Alberta E-Business Leadership Awards set for Nov. 28 The inaugural Alberta E-Business Leadership Awards will be presented to 10 Alberta companies, communities and not-for-profit organizations at a Calgary gala on Nov. 28.

The awards recognize and showcase Alberta organizations whose innovative use of Internet technologies has significantly impacted their business.

Finalists in their categories include:

1. B2B Large — Shumka Craig and Moore, Edmonton. Telus – Media Service Project, Calgary. Acrodex, Edmonton.

2. B2B Small — FloorsNow (Pandell), Calgary. Psychometrics, Edmonton. Flagworks, Calgary.

3. B2C Large — Enmax, Calgary. Metro Ford Sales, Calgary. Shaw TV Calgary.

4. B2C Small — World Wide Quote, Calgary. VPL Developments, Westerose. FloraWorld, Edmonton.

5. Global Reach — Web Host Canada, Calgary. IO-Tek, Edmonton. Alterna Technologies, Calgary.

6. Innovation — EssentialTalk Network, Calgary. TravellersMall.com, Calgary. Pandell Technology Corp., Calgary.

7. Intranet — Shumka Craig and Moore, Edmonton. Conoco Canada, Calgary. Alberta Treasury Branches, Edmonton.

8. Not-for-Profit Large — Workers’ Compensation Board, Edmonton. SAIT, Calgary. Alberta Wellnet, Edmonton.

9. Not-for-Profit Small — Town of Devon. CAPP, Calgary. River Watch Project, Calgary.

An E-Business of the Year award will also be presented.

Entrants were judged on their business or organizational success with an e-business/Internet initiative as described by the entrant, said organizer Bob Gardiner.

The selection committee looked for proven and provable business benefits, and whether the benefits were significant to the organization in terms of revenue growth, customer satisfaction, opening new markets, internal communications and/or a reduction in costs Design and functionality were secondary criteria.

The selection committee included Keith Crowder, executive director, Alberta Chambers of Commerce; Willie Gruber, e-business practice manager for Western Canada – IBM; Dino Esposito, president of MediaDog; and Ruben Nelson, president of Alliance for Capitalizing on Change and Fellow of the World Business Academy.

The event is being held this year at the Telus Convention Centre with reception at 6:15 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony beginning at 8:45 p.m.
