Dan McFadyen, a professional engineer with more than two decades of experience in public service and the energy sector, has been appointed as deputy minister of Alberta Energy. He replaces Ken Smith, who retired from the post earlier this fall.
McFadyen will leave his current position as VP for regulatory affairs and public policy with the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association to assume his new duties on Jan. 3.
Thunder Energy Trust (TSX:THY.UN) has appointed Gerry Boyer to the position of vice-president of engineering. The company says Boyer has more than 30 years' experience, most recently with First Calgary Petroleums Ltd.
The Calgary-based trust was created last summer through the merger of three oil and gas companies.

Chief financial officer and VP of finance Robert Baldwin is retiring from Producers Oilfield Services Inc. effective Dec. 31.
Bob German will join Producers in December for a transition period and will assume the position of CFO effective Jan. 1. German comes from Precision Drilling Corp.
Carson Urlacher will assume the position of chief accounting officer effective Dec. 1. He joined Producers in July 2003.
