John Hrynkow of Park Royal Homes in Edmonton became the president of the Alberta Home Builders’ Association (AHBA) on Nov. 1. He succeeds Jay Westman of Jayman Master Builder.
Hrynkow has been in the industry for more than 25 years and is a past president of the Edmonton Region Home Builders’ Association.
At the same time, Allan Klassen of Albi Homes in Calgary becomes first vice-president of the AHBA. He will succeed Hrynkow as president a year from now.
Hrynkow says that his priorities this coming year will be the launch of the albertabuilderconnect website, continuing the momentum on the worksite safety initiative within the industry and stronger government relations.
Marketing agency Venture Communications has appointed Jennifer Cioffi as community director of strategic planning.
Cioffi comes from Microsoft, where she most recently served as a director in the Windows Business Unit.
Based in Calgary with branch offices in Edmonton and Ottawa, Venture provides marketing strategy and creative execution.
Lawrence Cunningham has resigned from Total Telcom (TSXV:TTZ) as VP of corporate affairs and general counsel. He will be retained as an outside legal consultant, as required, until March of 2005. Cunningham will also remain on the current board of directors as chairman.
Total Telcom said it will be eliminating the position as part of ongoing efforts to minimize general administrative expenses. The company owns, operates and manages long-haul IP broadband fibreoptic networks providing services to communities in Alberta and British Columbia.
Interactive marketing specialists Robb Johnstone and Steve Warme are RareMethod Capital Corp.’s (TSXV:RAM) newest recruits.
Johnstone joins the company as senior copywriter. He comes from Critical Mass where he headed the copywriting department.
Warme, another Critical Mass alumnus, joins Rare Method as project manager. He was previously program director at Critical Mass.
Rare Method designs, builds and implements interactive marketing programs.
Fred Green is the new executive VP and CEO of Canadian Pacific Railway.
Green, who began his career with CPR in 1978, has held senior management positions across the railway’s network. He was previously executive VP of operations and marketing.
Zi Corp. (TSX:ZIC; Nasdaq:ZICA) has a new chief technology officer and chief operating officer.
Milos Djokovic is a veteran software executive. Most recently, he was employed at Accenture, where he worked on the firm’s customer relationship management (CRM) technology strategy.
Calgary-based Zi provides text interfaces for wireless and consumer technologies in a number of languages.
Arsenal Energy Inc. (TSXV:AEI) has appointed Trevor Mitzel as chief financial officer.
Mitzel comes to Arsenal with a wealth of public company and regulatory experience, most recently as CFO of Environmental Management Solutions Inc.
