Calgary’s Alliance Pipeline has agreed to commit $150,000 over the next five years to help the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology develop a new curriculum for the pipeline industry.
The donation will help SAIT students learn more about pipeline integrity, controls and pipeline welding, and also support student awards in programs involving pipelines in the energy, manufacturing and automation sectors.
"Alliance is pleased to be working with SAIT and to be developing a long-term relationship," said Allan Edgeworth, Alliance president and CEO.
"Alliance Pipeline’s success is driven by its technology and its people. These business drivers make an alliance with SAIT a natural fit. Fostering close relationships with institutions like SAIT works to meet a challenge for Canadian resource-based industries to ensure that technically educated and trained people are ready to fill our future workforce needs."
Added SAIT president Irene Lewis: "We are ecstatic that Alliance Pipeline has made this generous donation. SAIT is pleased to be working with Alliance Pipeline in developing new curriculum specific to the pipeline industry and providing students opportunities to get an education that will prepare them for a career in this exciting industry."
SAIT offers four applied degrees, 16 certificate programs, 47 diploma programs, five IT Fast Tracks, 25 apprenticeships, 14 pre-employment programs and 1,038 continuing education courses through seven academic departments.
Programs in SAIT's Energy Department are delivered in 14 labs equipped with specialized systems and technology for training in energy-related programming and three Centres of Advanced Technology and Innovation. SAIT's Manufacturing and Automation Department delivers programs in 21 labs using approximately $12.5 million in training technology including state-of-the-art welding, robotics and CNC equipment.
