The managing director and CEO of the Alberta Research Council Inc. (ARC) has been honoured by the Innovation Management Association of Canada (IMAC).

John McDougall was presented with the Technology and Innovation Management Award at IMAC's annual awards event held last week in Montreal.

The Technology and Innovation Management Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated leadership in managing technology and innovation resources; in establishing policies in the field of science and technology-based innovation; and in defining science and technology-based innovation strategies.

"This award commemorates John's contributions to Canada's innovation community over the years," said Robert Marshall, past chair, IMAC board of directors, responsible for the awards committee. "His continued leadership in practical technology management has stood Alberta and Canada in good stead."

McDougall's focus is on reducing overlap, improving overall efficiencies within the innovation system and ensuring any increase in research and development investment by Alberta and Canada translates into a proportionate increase in the number of jobs and commercial and economic activity.

IMAC is an association of research, technology management and innovation leaders in Canada that grew out of the merger of the former Canadian Research Management Association (CRMA) and the former Canadian Association for the Management of Technology (CANMOT).

The Alberta Research Council develops and commercializes technologies to give customers a competitive advantage. ARC performs applied research and development on a contract or fee basis, and co-ventures with others to develop new technologies, deriving a return on investment from the commercialization of new products and processes.

ARC also conducts applied research for the public good and to support provincial science and technology needs and strategies.
