Sibold’s two-year appointment was made official earlier this month in Toronto.
Acumen Capital Finance Partners Limited has put Brian Parker in the president’s chair and named C. Michael Stuart as vice-president of investment banking.
James Welykochy has been appointed to the post of vice-president of research/oil and gas analyst. Acumen founder Bruce Ramsay will continue as chairman of the Calgary-based firm.
Departing the company are Kim Wong and Michael Hill. Acumen is an independent, employee-owned investment dealer serving corporate, institutional and retail clients.
Dennis Anderson and Mike Shaikh have been named to the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC).
The Alberta government has also reappointed Thomas Cooke to the industry-funded provincial corporation. Stephen Murison, meanwhile, has been named as a member and vice-chair.
Anderson retired from accounting in 1991 after senior roles with KPMG in Calgary, including a term as managing partner. Most recently, he served on the Alberta Insurance Council and is a former chairman and president of the Calgary Stampede Foundation.
Shaikh has been a chartered accountant since 1980 and has run his own company in Calgary since 1982. He is a senator of the University of Calgary and has taught at the U of C and Mount Royal College.
Murison joined the ASC as legal counsel in 1997 and prior to that was a partner with Calgary-based national law firm McCarthy Tétrault.
Cooke, a commission member since April 2000, has nearly 25 years of experience in corporate, commercial and administrative law and was partner of several law firms in Edmonton. He is also president of a private land development company.
The ASC is an administrative tribunal with quasi-judicial powers. Members are appointed by government and have backgrounds representing a range of experience in the investment industry. There are 12 members, including the chair and two full-time vice-chairs. All other members serve part-time.
