ATCO Structures has opened a third Calgary production facility and hired 40 new employees to meet orders for its customized drill camps and workforce housing.

The 50,000-square-foot plant at ATCO Industrial Park will initially focus production on five drill camps, each ranging between 45 and 58 units and capable of housing up to 115 oil and gas exploration workers.

Destined for Algeria, the drill camps are a combination of cubes and 'knockdown' units, which are built, wired and flat-packed for easy transport, then set up at their final destinations.

ATCO Structures opened the new facility after receiving multi-million-dollar contracts from Algeria's L'Entreprise Nationale de Forage (ENAFOR) and L'Entreprise Nationale des Travaux aux Puits (ENTP).

"The uniqueness of this facility is its flexibility to switch production from one design line to another in a short period of time," said Walter Kmet, president and CEO, ATCO Structures.

Kmet said orders received have guaranteed the plant will be in full operation throughout the winter, with the company already negotiating additional work. ATCO Structures Inc., part of the ATCO Group of Companies, has manufactured, sold and leased workforce housing and modular buildings since 1947 to more than 100 countries around the world.
