Richard (Dick) Auchinleck has joined the C·Prosperity industry cluster initiative as co-chair.

Involving 13 municipalities in the Calgary region, C·Prosperity is a collaborative effort of the region’s private and public sector leaders to build a long-term economic strategy balanced with quality of life.

“C·Prosperity sets the framework for the Calgary region to remain globally competitive,” said Auchinleck, past president and CEO, Gulf Canada Resources.

“By working together, businesses will be able to identify how they can continue to work together to compete in the global economy,” he added. “I am eager to help lead this process because C·Prosperity is the most effective way of achieving success within this rapidly changing environment.”

Calgary Inc. is leading and facilitating the initiative in co-operation with the Calgary Regional Partnership.

Auchinleck’s fellow co-chair is Georgine Ulmer, president and CEO, Promoting Calgary Inc. One of their first duties is to welcome a group of eight “stewards” from business sectors across the Calgary region. They include Arden Brummel, Paul Haggis, Ken King, Nancy Knowlton, Jean Merriman, Bruce Morrison, Greg Royer and John Webb.

“These leaders will encourage people from diverse businesses, who would otherwise be competitors, to work together,” said Auchinleck.

“As representatives of the private sector, they will also help to raise awareness that the result of C·Prosperity is business in the Calgary region having a competitive edge in the global marketplace.”

Calgary Inc. has retained the ICF Consulting Group of San Francisco to co-ordinate the development process.

Calgary Inc., established in 1999, is the lead marketing agency for promoting Calgary. It co-ordinates the three city-funded promotional authorities: Calgary Technologies Inc., Calgary Convention Centre Authority and Tourism Calgary.

The Calgary Regional Partnership is an organization representative of the 13 districts and municipalities that make up the Calgary region.
