Daniel Goldberg has been named president and CEO of Telesat Canada. The former president and CEO of SES New Skies succeeds Larry Boisvert, who will remain a senior adviser at Telesat, on loan to BCE for the coming months.
Telesat is a wholly owned subsidiary of Montreal-based BCE Inc. (TSX, NYSE:BCE), Canada's largest communications company.
Julie Dill has been named president of Union Gas effective Jan. 1. She succeeds Greg Ebel, who has been named chief financial officer of a stand-alone natural gas business that will result from the separation of Duke Energy's gas and electric businesses.
Dill is currently group executive for investor relations and chief communications officer for Duke Energy, Union Gas's parent company.
Union Gas is an integrated natural gas storage, transmission and distribution company serving about 1.3 million customers in Ontario. Its head office is in Chatham.
Anthony Haines has been appointed president of the Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd., following the retirement of former president Jim Black on Aug. 31.
Haines joined Toronto Hydro Corp. in 2005 as chief administration officer.

SIR Corp. and SIR Royalty Income Fund (TSX: SRV.UN) report that Peter De Groot has joined SIR as vice-president of the Alice Fazooli's! division. De Groot has more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, most recently as VP of operations for Montana's Cookhouse.
Jim Mallon, who previously led the Alice Fazooli's!
division, will join the Jack Astor's division.
SIR is a privately held Canadian company that owns and operates a portfolio of restaurants in Canada. The fund, which is headquartered in Burlington, receives distribution income from its investment in the SIR Royalty Limited Partnership.

Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Distribution LP has appointed Andrew Austin as senior VP of television distribution.
Austin was most recently senior vice-president of Canadian distribution at THINKFilm.

H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:HR.UN) says Larry Froom, its vice-president of finance, will assume the role of chief financial officer. Eric Cohen has resigned as CFO, citing a desire to spend more time with family and pursue personal interests.

Patheon Inc. (TSX:PTI) has appointed Riccardo Trecroce, its general counsel and executive VP for adminstration, as interim CEO while the company continues its search for a new CEO.
Patheon also said Douglas Ludwig, CFO and executive VP, has resigned. Nicholas Dowd, the vice-president and controller, becomes interim CFO.
Patheon, which has its corporate office in Mississauga, provides drug development and manufacturing services at 14 facilities in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
Gennum Corp. (TSX:GND) says Franz Fink has been appointed president and CEO. He was most recently senior VP and general manager of Freescale Semiconductor's wireless and mobile systems group.

Patrick Devine is joining Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP on Nov. 1 as a partner in the firm's commercial real estate practice in FMC's Toronto office. Devine will be accompanied by associates Jason Park and Katarzyna Sliwa, as well as municipal planners Robert Blunt and Andrea Paterson, all of whom are joining FMC from another Canadian law firm.

Speirs, an engineer, has 25 years of experience in the mining industry, most recently as corporate manager of development and engineering for Compania Minera Milpo SA.
Glencairn Gold also has appointed Arthur Chen, CA, as controller. Chen was assistant controller at Lucent Technologies prior to joining Glencairn.

Co-operators General Insurance Co. has announced senior management changes in response to retirement plans. The senior management team oversees the group's companies.
Dan Thornton, senior VP and COO of Co-operators Life Insurance Co., will retire effective next April after 38 years. Peter Parkin, senior VP and COO of the Sovereign General Insurance Co., a subsidiary of Co-operators General Insurance, will retire at the end of February after 13 years with the company.
Vivien Fong, senior VP and chief information officer, will retire in October, having been with The Co-operators for more than four years.
Kevin Daniel will become senior VP and COO of Co-operators Life Insurance Co. in April 2007. He has been with The Co-operators for 20 years, currently as senior VP for finance and CFO of The Co-operators Group.
Robert Wesseling succeeds Fong in October. He has been with Co-operators General for nine years, currently as VP of personal lines and packaged products. In the meantime, a search is under way to fill the roles of CFO and COO for Sovereign General.

Russell Investment Group has appointed Irshaad Ahmad as president and managing director of Russell Investments Canada, succeeding Joe Perrin, who is leaving the company.
Ahmad assumes his new role after spending the past two years leading Russell Canada's institutional business, a position he will continue to hold.
