Dr. Alain Verbeke, a Belgian professor, will soon make Calgary his home as he takes on the role of McCaig Chair in Management (International Business) at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Management.
Verbeke teaches at the Solvay Business School at the University of Brussels, and will join the U of C on July 1.
In addition to a long list of publications, Verbeke has experience at several universities in Canada and Europe including the University of Oxford, University of Antwerp, University of Toronto and Dalhousie University.
Verbeke makes several presentations a year on a variety of strategic management issues to senior government officials and to senior management in business firms.
Clement Gaudet has been appointed vice-president, production and operations at zed.i solutions inc.
Gaudet, a professional engineer, has held several senior posts including, general manager with Bovar Engineered Products, president of Sci-Tec Instruments, and VP of operations with Develcon Electronics Inc.
zed.i solutions (ZED–CDNX) designs, manufactures and distributes intelligent remote-access wireless technology used to monitor and measure, in real-time, remote assets used by the oil, natural gas, and pipeline industries. The company also manufactures oilfield instrumentation.
Barry Jackson and Brian Lemke have joined the board of directors of Deer Creek Energy Ltd.
Jackson served most recently as president and CEO of Crestar Energy, and is a member of the board of directors of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd. and ENMAX Corp. Lemke served as senior VP and CFO at Crestar Energy Inc., VP finance at HCO Energy Ltd. and VP finance at Northstar Energy Corp.
Deer Creek is a privately held company specializing in the application of horizontal drilling and steam injection in large-scale heavy oil and bitumen development.
James Norrie has led a mass exodus at United Industrial Services Ltd. Norrie, president and CEO, has resigned from the company, along with Murray Lytle, executive VP and COO, and T.H. Briggs, VP, finance, CFO and corporate secretary.

Irv Koop has been selected chairman of the United Way’s board of directors. Koop, VP of Westcoast Energy Inc., replaces Brian MacNeill, who has been with the United Way for almost a decade.
Eric Bischoff has joined the board of directors of Digital Artisans Guild Inc. Bischoff will act as VP, development, of the company’s MatRats sports entertainment reality series.
Bischoff has produced more than 2,500 hours of sports entertainment programming for the TBS and TNT Networks, as well as providing syndication and international distribution in 30 countries outside the U.S. He lives in Phoenix and will commute to Calgary when necessary.
DAG, a high-tech production company that once produced Stampede Wrestling out of the Ogden Legion, has developed MatRats, a TV and Internet show that employs flashy teenage wrestlers and dancers.
