John Furlong has been named chief executive officer of the Vancouver organizing committee for the 2010
Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Furlong was president and chief operating officer of the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation, which prepared Canada’s successful bid for the 2010 Winter Games.
He has an extensive background in sport and sport management and is a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
The International Olympic Committee selected Vancouver as the host city of the 2010 Games last July.
The Games will be staged in Vancouver and Whistler from February 12-28, 2010. Whistler will play host to the Paralympic Winter Games March 12-21, 2010.
Ron Simkus is the new senior VP of mining for Vancouver-based Corriente Resources Inc.
He joins Corriente to lead completion of a feasibility study at the Mirador Copper-Gold Project in southeast Ecuador and to facilitate the construction and operation of a 20,000-tonne-per-day plant at the site.
Simkus has 28 years of industry experience, most recently as president and CEO of Compania Minera Antamina S.A. in Peru.
Anne Carabine is the new co-president of the Wired Woman Society’s Vancouver chapter. She replaces Nancy Nesbitt, who was co-president of the local chapter for many years.
Carabine brings more than 20 years of experience in information technology management, most recently as an IT director and manager in the education sector. She joins Rosemary Prinz in the co-president’s chair.
Wired Woman Society is a Canadian non-profit society that aims to encourage women to explore opportunities in technology, science and new media. Originally launched in Vancouver, the society now has chapters across Canada.
Janice Comeau has been named chief financial officer of Vancouver-based Napier Environmental Technologies (NIR-TSX).
She succeeds Jim Grinnell, who will stay on for an interim period to help the transition.
Comeau, a financial management specialist with more than 20 years of experience, has consulted to Napier on financial matters for the last several months. Previously, she held senior financial roles with companies including Bentall Corp. and Versacold Corp.
Beartooth Platinum Corporation (BTP-TSXV) is making changes at the top.
The company has appointed Keith Minty as president. Minty has more than 20 years of mining and financial experience, most recently as president and CEO of North American Palladium Ltd.
As well, Stephen Woodhead is the company’s new chief financial officer. He has more than 10 years of experience in the natural resource and public finance sectors. He is currently chief financial officer and corporate secretary for Tsodilo Resources Ltd. (formerly Trans Hex International Ltd.).
Tourism and hospitality veteran Ed Pitoniak is the new president and CEO of Vancouver-based CHIP REIT (HOT.un; HOT.db-TSX) and its subsidiary, CHIP Hospitality.
Pitoniak was formerly senior vice-president of Intrawest Resort Operations for nearly eight years. CHIP Hospitality is a hotel management company that currently manages more than 30 hotels and resorts in Canada and Washington state.
Yangtze Telecom Corp. (SMS-TSXV) has named Sam Chung as its new chief financial officer.
Chung has held several executive positions with companies based in both Asia and North America. He also has more then 10 years of financial and administrative experience in the trucking and forestry industry in Vancouver.
He replaces David Douglas, who has resigned.
Yangtze Telecom Corp. is a provider of SMS value-added services for mobile phone customers and voice information services for fixed phone and mobile customers in China.
Taco Time Canada has made several senior appointments in British Columbia and Alberta.
Marc Lieberman joins Calgary-based Taco Time with more than 15 years of sales and management experience in the restaurant, hospitality and sports apparel industry. Most recently, he was the general manager of the Harbor Canoe Club in downtown Victoria. Based in Vancouver, he will be responsible for the continued growth and development of Taco Time and Cantina franchises in B.C.
As general manager for Alberta, Steve Nickerson will be responsible for overseeing growth in the province. He joined Taco Time in 2002 and will be based in Calgary.
Meanwhile, Geoff Foster comes to Taco Time with 20 years of experience in the Canadian food franchise industry. Foster will be based in Calgary and will oversee the company’s growth in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Most recently, he was operations vice-president of Domino’s Pizza.
Wayne Clark has also joined the company as vice-president, franchise development for the firm’s Taco Time and Cantina brands growth strategy. He has more than 20 years of experience in sales management and strategic development of dealer networks, most recently as international sales manager of Net Safety Monitoring Inc.
Privately owned Taco Time is one of Canada’s largest Mexican restaurant chains.
Vancouver-based Condorado has hired John Ostler to oversee exploration of mineral projects.
Ostler has been involved in the mineral exploration business for more than 30 years including roles with several senior and junior mining and exploration companies as well as the Geological Survey of Canada.
Paul King has joined Vancouver-based Tanganyika Oil Co. Ltd. (TYK-TSXV).
King will serve as general manager of the Oudeh Field development project in Syria. He brings more than 30 years of experience in exploration, appraisal, evaluation and development of onshore and offshore oil and gas fields in the North Sea, Middle East, Far East, and most recently, the former Soviet Union.
Tanganyika is a Canadian oil and gas company operating through its wholly owned Syrian subsidiary Dublin International Petroleum (Syria) Ltd.
