QLT Inc. has a new vice-president of finance and chief financial officer. Cameron Nelson joined QLT in May 2000 and has held a number of positions with the firm.

SmarTire Systems Inc. of Richmond (OTCBB:SMTR) has recruited David Warkentin as its new vice-president of sales and marketing.

Most recently, he was VP of sales and marketing for Intrinsyc Software International. SmarTire develops and markets tire pressure-monitoring and technology systems for the global automotive and transportation industries.

Fairchild International Corp. has appointed Robert Klein as president and a director. He replaces Anish Somani, who has resigned to pursue other business interests, but will assist Fairchild as a consultant during the transition period.

The company said Klein has more than 23 years of experience in the energy and mining industries.

Vancouver-based Fairchild (OTCBB:FCHL) through its subsidiary Syngas Energy Ltd. is developing a system to produce synthetic gas, hydrogen or electricity.

Gary Lepp has joined VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSXV:VRB) as VP of operations. He brings more than 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering and product development, and most recently consulted for Noram Engineering.

Based in Vancouver, VRB is an energy storage company primarily focused on stationary power sources.

Industrial Alliance Pacific Insurance and Financial Services has a new president. Gerry Bouwers also becomes chief operating officer.

Prior to this appointment, he was VP and general manager of individual insurance and annuities for Canada at Industrial Alliance Pacific. Bouwers replaces John Gill, who has retired.

Industrial Alliance Pacific is the Vancouver-based life and health insurance subsidiary of Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services (TSX:IAG).

Western Forest Products Inc. (TSX: WEF) has appointed Duncan Kerr to the position of senior vice-president and chief operating officer. He is expected to assume the post in early September. Kerr comes from a 12-year stint with RLG International.
