Canada's Competition Bureau has reached a settlement with six auto body repair shops in Fort McMurray over price fixing and price maintenance.
The agreement requires the companies to comply with the Competition Act, discontinue setting fixed prices for vehicle repair work and cease communication on product prices or services.
The case involved companies Shamrock Maintenance & Hotshot Services Ltd., Pete's Custom Coachwork, Birchwood Auto Body, Alberta Motor Products Ltd., Noral Motors and Lane's Auto Shop. The businesses have also agreed to run a corrective notice outlining some details of the agreement in a local newspaper.
"Conspiring to fix prices and price maintenance are criminal offences with serious consequences," said Denyse MacKenzie, senior deputy commissioner of competition.
