Calgary entrepreneur Rosemary Marr has captured a national award for her export savvy.

Marr, president and CEO of global market freight-forwarding company Transera Group of Companies, was honoured last week with the Export Award at the Rotman Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Toronto.

She was among five Canadian women to receive awards for their entrepreneurial acumen from the University of Toronto’s Joseph L. Rotman School of Management.

“The Canadian women entrepreneurs we are honouring have relentlessly pursued innovative and unique business strategies to create value in the economy and for their customers,” said Rotman school dean Roger Martin.

“They have combined attitude, creativity, risk-taking and ambition to become industry and global leaders.

“We truly believe that these awards help encourage and inspire the kind of integrative thinking that will help Canada compete in the new millennium.”

Mar was praised for her strong work ethic and a passion for her business, which she founded as Expeditors Inter-national Forwarding Ltd. in 1985.

Renamed Transera Inter-national in 1998, the company has seen annual sales revenues grow from $1 million to this year’s projection of $42 million.

More than 40 per cent of the company’s sales are generated abroad and that number is expected to double in the next five years through new acquisitions and expansion.
