The partners in a Calgary real estate brokerage have bought the Vancouver operation of the company.

Torode Realty’s 10 Calgary shareholders are seeking additional shareholders from among the Vancouver employees. The Edmonton office is owned by five shareholders.

Every office will be owned by the people who work there, says company president David Wallach, similar to the practice at many accounting and law firms and other service industries.

“The bottom line is, you care,” Wallach says.

The firm’s short-term goal is stability and expansion in Western Canada. In the long run, it wants to expand, when the right time comes, across the rest of the country.

In the meantime, he says, in the last two-and-a-half years the company has developed a group of young people who are successful, loyal to the company and potential successors in the business.

“We continually strive to create an environment that rewards success,” says Wallach. “By keeping the ownership within our employee base, we ultimately control its success.”

Torode’s real estate services include office and industrial leasing and sales; investment sales; retail leasing and development; and strategic planning.
