A Calgary land developer has captured a top industry award for its work developing former military land in the Marda Loop area of southwest Calgary.
Canada Lands Company was honoured with the Grand SAM Award Monday night (Feb. 19) in Edmonton at a Canadian Home Builders’ Association national conference.
The award, widely coveted in the Canadian development industry, was given for the company’s Garrison Woods community at the former Canadian Forces Base Calgary.
“Garrison Woods and the CFB Calgary community is not only unique in Calgary, but in all of Canada,” Canada Lands Calgary sales and marketing director Ken Toews in a news release.
“It is a one-of-a-kind urban village in the middle of a big city. It is an integrated community where people can live, work, play and be educated. It celebrates its military roots and recognizes the importance of creating a lasting military legacy for Calgary.”
Canada Lands Company is an arms-length, non-agent Crown corporation mandated by the federal government to manage, develop and sell strategic federal properties such as military land.
The National SAM Awards celebrate excellence in new homes and renovation design, unique technology and construction techniques, presentation, marketing and sales activities across Canada. Builders, developers and trades people from across the country vie for the honours.
Canada Lands also received several other awards for its signage, brochures, Web site, logo and its sales centre – which is situated in one of the area’s military buildings.
Two other Calgary companies were among the 23 award recipients. Hopewell Residential Communities received an award for its radio and TV ads, and Pauls Poperities Corp. was honoured for best direct mail promotion.
