Michael Anderson is the new general manager of the Howard Johnson Hotel & Suites in Canmore. The 189-room hotel recently became part of the Bellstar Hotels & Resorts chain.

Anderson brings 20 years of hospitality management and entrepreneurial experience, most recently as general manager of Brewster’s Mountain Lodge in Banff.

The resort has also brought on a new Calgary-based sales manager, Brian Slot. Slot has more than 10 years’ experience in the hospitality industry.

Bellstar Hotels & Resorts is a resort development and management company involved in boutique resorts located in British Columbia and Alberta.

Arthur Lloyd has stepped down as president and chief operating officer of TGS North American Real Estate Investment Trust.

A replacement has not been announced.

The company (NAR.UN-TSX, NAR.U-TSX) is an unincorporated, open-end real estate investment trust with a portfolio of commercial income-producing properties in western North America.

Eric Young, Q.C., has been appointed chair of the Grant MacEwan College board of governors.

Young, a lawyer with Bryan and Company, Barristers and Solicitors, was named last week by Learning Minister Lyle Oberg to replace outgoing chair Janet Riopel, who recently completed her second term at the college.

Young is a member of the Colleagues of MacEwan, a group of community and business leaders who help to inform others about the college. He has been involved with the University of Alberta Foundation and the Canadian Mental Health Association, and has served as chairman of the professional division for the United Way campaign.

He has also held numerous committee and executive positions with Northlands Park, including his current role as president.

Toby Austin is the new chief executive and president of Calgary-based Calpine Power Income Fund (CF.UN-TSX).

He succeeds Rohn Crabtree, who currently serves as vice-president and managing counsel for Calpine Canada and as corporate secretary for Calpine Canada Power Ltd.

Calpine Power Income Fund is an unincorporated open-ended trust that invests in electrical power assets. The fund is managed by CCPL, headquartered in Calgary.

Mark Ferguson has resigned as director of corporate development for the Tamarack Group. He will continue corporate finance engagements through his own Calgary-based firm, Loudwater Capital.

CV Technologies has expanded its management team.

The Calgary-based company (CVQ-TSXV) has appointed Warren Michaels to the new position of vice-president of communications.

Michaels has extensive experience in journalism, public relations and investment/biotechnology analysis. He previously spent 35 years in senior news positions at companies, including CBC-TV.

The firm has also appointed Edwin Ngo as controller.

He is a former auditor with a major international accounting firm.

As well, Lisa Oliver has been appointed director, business development. She has more than 14 years of sales and sales management experience with global technical and technology-based companies.

Lisa Pfeiffer joins the company as business development manager for Ontario. Pfeiffer previously worked in retail account management and strategic sales in the telecommunications and packaged goods industry in both Canada and U.S.

Also joining the company is Tara Lavoie as business development manager for British Columbia. She spent several years building her own homeopathic clinic in B.C. and also worked in account management and marketing with a sports and nutrition consumer package goods company.

Lei Ling, meanwhile, has joined the firm’s science department. He brings 20 years industry experience including past roles as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alberta chemistry department as well as experience as senior scientist for Kinetana International Biotech Pharma.

Andrew Osis has resigned as chief financial officer and his responsibilities have been assumed by the new management team.
