The Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters has appointed Jean Michel Laurin to the new position of VP of global business policy, based in CME's national office in Ottawa. Laurin was previously VP of research and public affairs for Quebec Manufacturers & Exporters, CME's Quebec division.

Scotiabank has named a new personal loans boss. Twenty-year bank employee Robin Hibbard was appointed executive vice-president for domestic personal lending and insurance, and president and CEO of Scotia Mortgage Corp.

He is a chartered accountant who was previously senior VP for corporate development. Scotiabank (TSX:BNS) has its executive office in Toronto.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX, NYSE:ABX) has appointed Glenn Asch as manager of exploration. He will be based in Barrick's Vancouver office. Asch has been with Barrick since 2003, most recently as district geologist at the Cortez Mine in Nevada. Barrick is a gold-mining company with 27 operating mines. It is headquartered in Toronto.

The Equitable Group Inc. (TSX:ETC) of Toronto says its senior VP and CFO, Stephen Coffey, is resigning effective Sept. 30 to pursue personal interests.

The company has established a search committee to find a replacement.

Equitable is a niche mortgage lender that conducts business through its wholly owned subsidiary, the Equitable Trust Co.

Northcore Technologies Inc. (TSX:NTI) has named Duncan Copeland as its CEO and James Moskos as COO. Copeland is a founding director of the company. Moskos has been with the company since 1998, spearheading its technology strategy and initiatives. Northcore provides core asset solutions that help organizations source, manage and sell their capital equipment. Its head office is in Toronto.

MI Developments Inc. (TSX:MIM.A, MIM.B; NYSE:MIM) has named Richard Smith as executive VP and CFO, replacing Robert Kunihiro, who has resigned to pursue other opportunities. Smith was employed by Magna International Inc. since 2004, most recently as its VP for corporate development. MID is a real estate-operating company with virtually all of its income-producing properties under lease to Magna and its subsidiaries. MID's head office is in Aurora.

Uranium One has announced a number of management changes.

The company has structured its operations in regional time zones. When the proposed Energy Metals Corp. transaction closes, Paul Matysek, the current CEO of EMC, will become executive VP for the Americas for Uranium One.

Robin Merrifield, previously CFO of UrAsia Energy, is now executive VP and CFO of Uranium One. Jean Nortier, formerly CFO, is now executive VP for business development.

Ross Brown has joined Uranium One as senior VP for human resources. He was previously VP for HR and administration at Centerra Gold Inc.

Dan Krzewski has been appointed VP of integration to ensure the successful merging of Uranium One's recent acquisitions. He has more than 30 years of HR experience.

Thys Heyns has been promoted to senior VP for projects in the Johannesburg office. He was previously consulting geologist and VP for projects, and led Uranium One's due-diligence team on EMC.

Norman Schwab has been appointed VP for mining and will be part of Uranium One's projects team in Johannesburg. He was previously the acting COO for Aflease Gold Ltd., a majority-owned subsidiary of Uranium One.

Petr Valicek has been hired as VP for engineering and projects for Uranium One Africa. He has mining and engineering experience, most recently with Anglo Platinum. Sarel Ferreira has joined Uranium One Africa as VP of mining. He was formerly with Anglo Platinum.

Uranium One Inc. (TSX:SXR) has projects in Kazakhstan, South Africa, Australia, the United States, the Kyrgyz Republic and Saskatchewan. It has offices in Toronto, Vancouver and overseas.

Ian McWalter has been appointed president and CEO of CMC Microsystems. He comes with more than 30 years of leadership in the semiconductor and electronics industries. CMC Microsystems is a non-profit corporation that provides microsystems researchers with industry-calibre design resources, access to state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and support services. Its head office is in Kingston.

Sprott Asset Management Inc. has hired Allan Jacobs and Peter Imhof for its investment management team. Both were most recently at Sceptre Investment Counsel Ltd. Sprott is a Toronto-based private company and is the investment manager of the Sprott funds.

Aurelian Resources Inc. (TSX:ARU) has hired George Bee as chief operating officer. Bee was most recently director of technical projects for Barrick Gold Corp. Aurelian is engaged in exploring for and developing mineral projects in Ecuador. Its head office is in Toronto.

FNX Mining Co. Inc. (TSX:FNX) has promoted Gord Morrison to senior VP for corporate development and Catharine Farrow to VP of exploration.

Morrison joined FNX in 2002 and Farrow in 2003.

FNX operates, develops and explores for nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium and gold in the Sudbury mining camp. Its head office in Toronto.

Energy Savings Income Fund (TSX:SIF.UN) says its CFO, Mary Meffe, is leaving to pursue other interests. Ken Hartwick, president of Energy Savings, will act as interim CFO. Toronto-based Energy Savings supplies natural gas and electricity to customers in North America.

Uranium City Resources Inc. (TSXV:UCR) says Robert D. Kasner Jr. has resigned as an officer of the company, not Robert J. Kasner, president and CEO. Uranium City's head office is in Kirkland Lake.

Abode Mortgage Corp. (TSXV:ABD), a non-conforming mortgage lender, says Joseph DiGiambattista has joined the company as the senior VP for Central Canada. He will be responsible for launching Abode's operations in Ontario. DiGiambattista previously held the position of VP for the GTA for HLC Home Loans Canada.

Abode, which launched its lending operations in Western Canada in February, provides mortgage services to those unable to find conventional mortgage financing. It is headquartered in Vancouver.

Jovian Capital Corp. (TSXV:JVN) has named David Velanoff as president and CEO of its mutual fund dealer subsidiary Rice Financial Group Inc.

Velanoff has held various senior positions over the last 30 years with a number of mutual fund dealers, investment dealers and insurance providers.

Jovian is a management and holding company with interests in a variety of financial service firms specializing in wealth and asset management. Its head office is in Winnipeg and its executive office in Toronto.

(TSXV:LAK) says its chairman, George Breuler, is now interim president and CEO in place of Stanley Robinson, who remains a director and will focus on his role as a technical consultant to the company as well as its qualified person. Lakota has offices in Toronto and Dar-es-Salaam.

InStorage Real Estate Investment Trust (TSXV:IS.UN) has appointed Alay Shah as CFO and Marcus Lowe as VP of operations. Shah was formerly VP of finance.

Prior to joining the REIT, Lowe was VP of operations for Canadian Mini-Warehouse Properties and Public Storage Canadian Properties.

InStorage is an unincorporated open-ended real estate investment trust focused primarily on self-storage properties and ancillary businesses throughout Canada. Its head office is in Toronto.

Mackenzie Financial Corp., part of IGM Financial Inc. (TSX:IGM), has promoted Ian Ainsworth to interim chief investment officer. Ainsworth has been with Mackenzie for more than four years. Mackenzie says Peter Dawkins, chief investment officer since 2003, is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

BizBash Media, a trade medium for event and meeting planners, has named Sabina Pirri as publisher and Robyn Small as VP for its Toronto operations. Pirri was previously senior account manager with Bizbash. Small previously was BizBash's Toronto managing editor. BizBash Media publishes magazines and websites, and produces tradeshows for the event industry in major North American cities.

The Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA) has named Susan Wolburgh Jenah as president and CEO. She comes to the IDA from the Ontario Securities Commission where she was vice-chair from 2004 to 2007. The IDA is the national self-regulatory organization of the securities industry.

Richard Hornung has been named a part-time VP of the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

Hornung is currently president of Dispute Solutions Inc. The CIRB is a representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and apply the provisions of the Canada Labour Code dealing with bargaining rights and unfair labour practices.
