Compton Petroleum Corp. (TSX:CMT, NYSE:CMZ) has appointed Tim Granger to the roles of president and CEO, effective Jan. 26. Granger will also be appointed to the board on that date. He most recently held the office of VP of asset optimization and COO at Paramount Energy Trust. Compton is a Calgary-based company focused on natural gas, natural gas liquids and crude oil in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.

Following Pearl Exploration and Production Ltd.'s (TSX:PXX) acquisition of all the shares of BlackCore Resources Inc., a new senior management team formerly with BlackRock Ventures Inc. has been hired. The new team includes John Festival as president and CEO; Don Cook as CFO; Ed Sobel as VP of exploration; and Chris Hogue as VP of operations. Pearl is focused on converting its captured resources into reserves and becoming a heavy-oil project development company. Its head office is in Calgary.

Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd. (TSXV:STG) has named Greg Nelson its executive VP and COO.

Nelson has been a director and consultant to the company. Based in Calgary, STG designs, manufactures and distributes power inverters for grid-connected solar PV systems.

Flint Energy Services Ltd. (TSX: FES) has hired Joel Jarding as VP of Flint Transco, an operating unit of Flint's newly created oilfield services division. Jarding brings more than 26 years in the oil and gas services sector. Based in Calgary, Flint Energy provides integrated products and services for the oil and gas industry.

Canoel International Energy Ltd. (TSXV:CIL) has appointed director Andrea Cattaneo as its COO. Cattaneo has been an energy consultant in Genoa and London. Canoel is an oil and gas exploration company with its head office in Calgary.

Dean Hill has become CFO in addition to VP of finance for Canadian Spirit Resources Inc. (TSXV:SPI).

Hill joined the company in 2006 in the latter role. CSRI is focused on the unconventional gas sector in Western Canada. Its head office is in Calgary.

Circa Enterprises Inc. (TSX:CTO), a Calgary-based maker of products for the electronics industry, says its president and CEO Richard Schmidt plans to leave the company at the end of February. Schmidt, who started with Circa a decade ago as CFO, will provide advisory services to the company for a year after he leaves. Chairman Ivan Smith has agreed to become interim president and CEO effective March 1. Smith ran the company for nearly two decades until Schmidt replaced him in November 2004.

The Churchill Corp. (TSX:CUQ), an Edmonton-based construction services company, has appointed veteran executive James Houck as the new president and chief executive. Houck was the former president and CEO of Western Oil Sands Inc., which was sold to Marathon Oil last year.

TransAtlantic Petroleum Corp. (TSX:TNP) says Matthew McCann, a company director, has been elevated to the position of CEO. Scott Larsen, TNP's former president and CEO, will remain president and continue to sit on the board. TransAtlantic is a vertically integrated project developer of oil and gas properties in Morocco, Turkey and Romania. Its head office is in Calgary.

Joe Werner has retired as president and CEO of Petro-Reef Resources Ltd. (TSXV:PER) after 17 years with the Calgary company. He remains chairman. Filling his shoes is Ted Donhuysen, who previously held the positions of COO and VP of exploration and production. Werner and Donhuysen are the original founders of Petro-Reef, which is a crude oil and natural gas company with producing properties in Alberta.
