Calgary-based CSI Wireless Inc. has received an extended order valued at more than $12.5 million for its new fixed-base wireless telephone.

The deal follows the initial $20-million order previously received from Brightstar Corporation in September 2002. Shipments under the new order are expected to be delivered within the next three months.

The three-watt, digital, fixed-base wireless telephone, developed and supplied by CSI Wireless, is being distributed by Brightstar in Latin America. Brightstar is a Motorola licensee and is branding the phones as the Motorola FX800t.

CSI Wireless has transferred the final assembly of the FX800t to Juarez, Mexico, from Thailand to capitalize on cost and shipping efficiencies because the primary customer is in Latin America.

“The transfer to Mexico was important in meeting the
end customer’s high-volume requirements,” said Stephen Verhoeff, president and CEO of CSI. “It also removes some international shipping tariffs, which will increase our
margins.”

The Motorola FX800t is a dual-mode (digital and analog frequencies) fixed wireless
telephone with up to three watts of power output in TDMA mode. The FX800t uses standard AC power and features emergency backup battery power.

It’s used as part of wireless local loops – primarily in rural areas where land-based copper wire systems are unavailable, expensive or unreliable.
