While many sports claim there is no "I" in team, the sport of dragon boating, which has its roots in ancient China, delivers a true team experience. There isn't an opportunity for individual effort in a boat with 22 people (20 paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson). All members of the crew must work in synchronicity to propel the boat down the course.
"There are no stars on a dragon boat crew," states Mike Kerkmann, co-founder of the Great White North Dragon Boat Challenge. "The individual participant blends in with the rest of their crew members making this the ultimate team sport. Anyone can do it, any age and any fitness level."
The Great White North Dragon Boat Challenge will celebrate its 12th year when 150 corporate and community teams hit the race course on Toronto's beautiful waterfront on September 9th and 10th. Companies such as CIBC, CN and Fairmont Hotels have all discovered the sport and appreciate its team-building benefits.
The Challenge has also been a boon to local charities over the past 11 years, raising almost $1 million. This marks the second year that Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto will be the beneficiary of the Challenge. If your company is looking for a wet and wild team-building experience contact Great White North Communications at 416-962-8899 or log on to www.dragon-boat.com.
