Two Edmonton-area firms have been awarded contracts to provide services and technology for military use.

Nisku-based Raydan Manufacturing Inc. announced a deal with the Department of National Defence to modify and repair heavy commercial transportation units at the Edmonton Garrison. The work will include installing Raydan’s Air-Link suspension, frame extensions, retrofitting and all other required maintenance.

“We’re thrilled to have been awarded this contract,” said company president and CEO Ray English. The contract runs from June 1 through July 31, 2003.

Meanwhile, Poly-Pacific International Inc. has secured $730,000 US worth of new U.S. military and commercial contracts for its plastic blasting media.

The major contract is a partnering agreement with Honeywell Aircraft Landing Systems, said Poly-Pacific president Thomas Lam, while the other deals involve an extension of existing services being provided at two U.S. air bases.

Although these contracts are small, “both bases reviewed our recycling program closely before selecting Poly-Pacific to provide for their needs,” said Lam.

The company’s MultiCut product is used to strip paint and other coatings off aircraft components in repair facilities operated by Honeywell and the air force bases.
