Edmonton’s Bioware Corp. is on a winning streak.
This week’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award is the fourth time this year that the company has been recognized by the business community.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, and Dr. Greg Zeschuk, joint CEOs of BioWare, accepted the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year prairie award in the Software and Information for the Prairies category.
“We can easily attribute our good fortune and this recognition to the hard work and dedication of the staff at BioWare. They’re great people, and I’m proud of them,” said Muzyka.
Bioware’ other successes include ranking 11th in Profit magazine’s Profit100 (Canada); ranking 15th in Venture magazine’s Fastest Growing Companies in Alberta; and ranking 27th in Deloitte & Touche’s Technology Fast50 (Canada).
Also, BioWare is a finalist in the coming ASTech Awards, recognizing leadership in Alberta science and technology.
“Canadian game companies are rare,” said Dr. Zeschuk. “In an industry that’s rather hard on upstart developers, we’ve been fortunate to have the right people at the right time. To be recognized by the business community, while working in the entertainment industry makes this recognition even more important to us.” BioWare employs more than 100 developers in their Edmonton studios.
BioWare’s published projects include: Shattered Steel, the genre-defining Baldur’s Gate role playing game series, MDK2 for Dreamcast and PC, and MDK2: Armageddon for Playstation2. Recently, BioWare released Baldur’s Gate: Throne of Bhaala, the massive expansion pack to Baldur’s Gate II Shadows of Amn.
BioWare’s developers are currently hard at work on Neverwinter Nights for PC, Linux, Mac and BeOs – all to be published by Black Isle Studios/Interplay, and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic – to be published by LucasArts.
