The chief financial officer of energy giant EnCana Corp. is leaving the company, following the example of CEO Gwyn Morgan, a long-time colleague who is retiring at the end of the year.
John Watson, executive vice-president and CFO, will step down Feb. 28.
He will remain with the company as an adviser to the new CFO, Brian Ferguson, until the end of 2006. Ferguson was most recently executive VP for corporate development.
Based in Calgary, EnCana is one of North America's leading natural gas producers.
Edmonton Airports has appointed two new vice-presidents. Diane Trenn becomes VP of operations and Peter McCart VP of marketing.
Trenn joined Edmonton International Airport in 1983 and has held a variety of jobs, most recently the position of director of operations.
McCart has spent the past 17 years with Air Canada.
Edmonton Airports is a not-for-profit organization that manages the region's airport assets on behalf of the community.
Winalta Inc. (TSXV:WTA.A) has named Frank Dixon as president and chief operations officer. The company says Dixon brings extensive business and strategic planning experience.
Also this month, Blair Bondar has resigned as president of Vanguard Inc., a subsidiary of Winalta, due to family health matters. Assuming this role will be Ross Kiersgaard, formerly Vanguard's general manager.
Edmonton-based Winalta produces manufactured and modular homes. In addition, through Vanguard, the company manufactures motorized and non-motorized recreational vehicles.
Peter Coldham has become the VP of engineering and operations for Questerre Energy Corp. (TSX:QEC) and Rick Tityk the VP of land.
Coldham has more than 23 years of experience in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin with both multinational and junior companies. Tityk is an experienced negotiator with large and small projects in different jurisdictions.
Questerre is a Calgary-based independent oil and gas company.
PetroWorth Resources Inc. says its president and two of its directors have resigned.
The energy company did not say why president and director Paul Sparks and directors Andrew Burnett and Frank Sayer left. PetroWorth (TSXV:PTW) said it is actively seeking replacements.
PetroWorth is a junior oil and gas exploration company with extensive properties in Eastern Canada.
Oilsands company Synenco Energy Inc. has named Todd Newton, formerly chief financial officer, to be the company's president and chief operating officer.
In addition, Synenco's board of directors has appointed Bernard (Bert) Lang as executive vice-president for engineering and design.
Calgary-based Synenco also says company founder Michael Supple has agreed to remain as executive chairman and CEO for the next two years. The company has begun a search for a new chief financial officer.
Synenco is the managing partner of the Northern Lights oilsands partnership.
Amin Rawji has succeeded Nizar Somji as CEO of Edmonton-based Matrikon Inc.
Somji has become non-executive chairman of the board.
Rawji joined Matrikon in 1995 and was promoted to president in July of 2005.
Matrikon (TSX: MTK) provides industrial intelligence solutions that predict and prevent problems and optimize operations.
Eric Allen, formerly of Coal Gas Technology Ltd., has joined Richards Oil & Gas Ltd. as VP of operations.
The company says Allen has more than 25 years of experience in the mining and energy industries worldwide.
Richards (TSXV:RIX) is an oil and gas exploration company based in Calgary that specializes in coal-bed methane properties.
TransAlta Corporation (TSX:TA, NYSE:TAC) has named a new executive vice-president and CFO.
Brian Burden was most recently executive vice-president and chief financial officer of Molson, Inc.
Burden succeeds Ian Bourne, who will remain an officer of the company and a member of the senior management team for 2006.
Calgary-based TransAlta is a power generation and wholesale marketing company.
Signet Energy, Inc., a Canadian subsidiary of Surge Global Energy, Inc. USA, has appointed a new CEO. Leigh Cassidy, who also becomes executive chairman, was formerly CFO and corporate secretary at UTS Energy.
Additionally, Edward Howard, previously a consultant to Surge Global Energy (Canada) Ltd., was appointed VP of exploration and development of Signet Energy.
Fred Kelly, the CEO of Surge Global Energy, has been appointed COO of Signet Energy.
With offices in Calgary, Signet Energy's focus is the Sawn Lake Oil Sands Project in northern Alberta, in which it holds a 40-per-cent working interest.

John van der Welle will join First Calgary as finance director, VP of finance and CFO effective January 2006. Van der Welle was most recently the finance director for Premier Oil.
