Joe Fardell is the new president of the Calgary Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Fardell brings experience to the position, having served in the same capacity in Hamilton, Ont., for 13 years.

He was appointed interim president and CEO of the Calgary bureau in February, and previously served as VP, destination marketing. He joined the bureau in 1999.

Earlier this month Fardell was named general manager of Travel Alberta International Inc., but has withdrawn from that post following his new appointment.

Meanwhile, the bureau has announced the resignation of Paul Wakeling as chairman. First vice-chairman Doug Crapo has replaced him.

Wakeling, a director for the past seven years, said he was pursuing a career outside tourism and felt it wasn’t appropriate to lead the bureau.

Crapo is president of EXCELeration Corp., a Calgary-based tourism consulting firm and past chairman of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce tourism committee.

Mike McDonald has been named the new VP, finance, and chief financial officer for Talisman Energy Inc.

McDonald joined Talisman (then BP Canada) in 1982 and has held a number of positions in the company. He has been the manager of corporate planning, general manager of the company’s North Sea operations and recently VP, business development.

Talisman (TLM–TSE, TLM–NYSE) is the largest independent Canadian oil and gas producer with operations in Canada, the North Sea, Indonesia and Sudan.

Brian Bogaert has been promoted to partner, corporate client services at PowerPlus Systems Corp.

Bogaert joined the company a year ago as senior consulting associate and has a decade of business and information technology experience. He is responsible for training and consulting services to various Canadian and U.S. clients.

PowerPlus provides clients with the PowerPlus Modelling Approach (PMA)‚ a front-end system requirements analysis methodology, which is supported by the firm’s Business Analyst 2020 software.

Adina Rothenberg has joined Imaging Dynamics Corp. (ID–CDNX) as an investor relations analyst.

Rothenberg previously was involved in investor relations with Golf Management Systems International, and was a broker at Rothenberg Capital Management.

Imaging Dynamics has developed the Xplorer system, a high-resolution digital radiography detector system that replaces the need for film in general human diagnostic imaging.

IDC has Health Canada approval and U.S. Food and Drug Administration marketing clearance for its technology.

Andrew Sylvester has become a director of Best Pacific Resources Ltd. Sylvester is the president and CEO of Forum Global Asset Management Ltd., a Bahamian-based company providing asset and portfolio management in partnership with the Forum Finance Group, longtime private bankers based in Geneva.

Best Pacific (BPG–TSE) is a Calgary-based company with exploration and development activities in central Alberta and southeastern Saskatchewan.

Graeme Phipps joins Petro-Canada as VP, Exploration and International. Phipps has more than 25 years of industry experience and will be responsible for Petro-Canada’s exploration program in western Canada, the Mackenzie Delta, offshore Canada’s East Coast and the company’s international operations.

Myron Hladyshevsky has been appointed VP, corporate accounts for Gilbert Laustsen Jung Associates Ltd. Hladyshevsky joined the consulting firm in 1983 and has conducted economic evaluations of oil and gas reserve properties throughout western North America. The firm offers engineering and geological services to the oil and gas industry.

Michael Mears is the new chairman of the advisory board of the CWM Group. Mears recently retired after a distinguished career with the Loram organization. CWM provides clients with financial and tax planning, investment management, retirement, estate and succession planning.

Robert Hill has been named president of the board of directors of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association. Hill was formerly the association’s VP, technology and operations. CEPA represents the interests of Canada’s major crude oil and natural gas transmission pipeline companies.

Bodie acts for a variety of clients, both small business owners and multinationals.

Mohamed specializes in commercial litigation, including energy related matters, banking and general corporate litigation.
