Robert Friedland is set to become the chief executive of Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (TSX:IE) in May as it undergoes a corporate restructuring in advance of the rollout of its proprietary heavy oil upgrading technology. Friedland, who was founding chairman of Ivanhoe, most recently was deputy chairman of the company and co-chairman of its China-focused Sunwing Energy subsidiary. Vancouver-based Ivanhoe is seeking out partners in the oilsands to form an integrated business.
Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR, AMEX:EXK) says Bill Franklin stepped down as CFO on March 31 for health reasons. Franklin will be available in a consulting capacity, health permitting. Dan Dickson, the Vancouver company's current controller, has been appointed interim CFO while the company searches for a permanent CFO.

Pacific Safety Products Inc. (TSXV: PSP) has appointed Shawn Sutton as chief financial officer. Sutton, who comes with extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, succeeds Valerie Dougans, who is not relocating with the company from Kelowna to its new base in Ottawa. PSP sells high-performance safety products for the defence and security market, including body armour and tactical clothing.
Serengeti Resources Inc. (TSXV: SIR) has hired Alec Peck as CFO. Peck previously provided senior financial and advisory services to private and public corporations, acting in officer or director capacities. He replaces former CFO Ian Brown, who will remain on the board of directors.
Vancouver-based Serengeti is a mineral exploration company active in British Columbia.
Cantest has named Brian Lowe as vice-president of sales and marketing. Most recently Lowe served as VP of sales and marketing at Dyaptive Systems Inc. Cantest, an employee-owned company founded in 1969, provides analytical services supporting the environmental quality, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food-safety industries as well as related projects for business and government. It is based in Burnaby.
Portal Resources Ltd. (TSXV:PDO) has engaged Mark Brown as CFO. Brown, who serves as a company director, is the president of Pacific Opportunity Capital Ltd. Christine West, Portal's previous CFO and controller, has left to pursue other interests. Founded in 2004, Portal is a natural resource company based in Vancouver that is focused on uranium, gold-silver and copper-gold projects in Argentina and the U.S.A.
Cary Pinkowski has joined Centrasia Mining Corp. (TSXV:CTM) as president and chief executive officer, replacing Douglas Turnbull, who has stepped aside for personal reasons. Turnbull will remain a director of the Vancouver company. Pinkowski comes with more than 18 years of experience in capital markets focused on natural resource and mining industries. Centrasia Mining is changing its name to Kola Mining Corp. to better reflect its focus on the Kola Peninsula of Russia, and expects to be listed for trading on the TSXV under the symbol KM.
Zincore Metals Inc. (TSX:ZNC) has promoted Vernon Arseneau as VP of exploration and an officer of the company. Arseneau had been exploration manager for Peru. Zincore holds a portfolio of zinc properties in southern Peru. The miner's head office is located in Vancouver.
Rocky Mountain Resources Corp. (TSXV:RKY), a Vancouver-based junior miner, says it has appointed mine developer Thomas DeMull as the company's new president and chief executive, with plans to build the company's Nevada specialty metals project. DeMull had been with Newmont Mining Corp. since 1995 in a number of positions. He replaces Brian McAlister, who will remain on Rocky Mountain's board. Rocky Mountain Resources is a gold and base-metal explorer and developer.
Ascalade Communications Inc. (TSX: ACG) says Bruce Bernard, chief technology officer, will leave the company after seven years on April 30 to pursue other opportunities.
Ascalade designs, develops and manufactures digital wireless and communication products. Its head office is in Richmond.
