Looking for a gift for the executive who has everything?

Forget the dress socks. Move the sexy thong underwear down – way down – the list. This holiday season, there’s only one choice for the discerning business type.

Mago Island, a private paradise in Fiji, is now available to top off the most exclusive corporate wish-list. Billed as a beautiful, unspoiled marvel, Mago Island is the perfect gift for someone looking to experience a lifestyle of the rich and famous.

The price? A bargain at $15 million US.

Mago Island in the South Pacific would be an ideal gift under almost everybody’s Christmas tree.

“It’s a rare chance to own and enjoy one of the world’s most exclusive freehold islands,” said Mark Lester, associate vice-president, Unique Properties Group, Colliers International.

The listing for Mago is a jewel in the crown of the Vancouver office of Colliers International, a global real estate company with 238 offices in 51 countries. Last year the company’s sales and lease transactions were $40 billion worldwide.

Lester is responsible for the negotiating and sales of properties that fall within Colliers’ specialty marketing group, and has sold more than $300 million worth of unique properties during his career, including B.C.’s Douglas Lake Ranch, Canada’s largest privately owned cattle ranch.

Colliers has a long-standing relationship with Tokyu Corporation, the Japanese company that owns the island, and was therefore its first choice to list the property, said Lester.

Readily accessible to any jet-setter, Mago Island (pronounced Mungo) is located in the Northern Lau Group of the Fiji islands. It is 290 kilometres away from Suva, the capital city of Fiji.

“The island has everything to be livable,” Lester said.

“The setting is rustic, but electricity, running water and indoor plumbing are in place. The buyer can leave it as it is or introduce amenities to their heart’s content.”

Mago has long held the interest of explorers and cartographers and is described glowingly in the writings of Captains Cook, Bligh and Von Luckner. The first freehold owner, Rupert Ryder, purchased the island from the Somosomo chiefs in the 19th century.

Local reefs are ideal for snorkeling and diving, and pristine white sand beaches line the shore. A year-round temperature range from 27° to 32° ensures crops of mangos, coconuts, grapefruit, guava and papaya flourish. The island boasts a village populated by 40 staff members and their families.

And there’s more to stuff your stocking. Included in the offer are 400 head of cattle, 300 goats, 16 horses, electrical generators, several vehicles (including a bulldozer) and a boat. Also included are three tiny islands off the southern shore – Edward, Goat and Kid islands.

For something a little closer to home, and for mere pocket change, Angell Hasman and Associates of West Vancouver are offering a pair of houses on the scenic West Coast. For $6.8 million dollars each, you could have your choice of either of these waterfront properties on West Vancouver’s trendy Marine Drive, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, fully equipped home theatres, wine cellars and private driving range. Indoor plumbing is included.

Lester added that he plans to have a showing of this island paradise in January. Those who must have snow for Christmas need not enquire.
