Five local entrepreneurs received Fraser Milner Casgrain Pinnacle Awards last week. The winners of the 14th annual awards were chosen for their success in business and included:
* Fred Claridge, director of Komex International Ltd. Water is the primary focus of Komex, which provides solutions in water resource delineation, development, management and restoration. Supplemental to that, the company provides integrated, multi-disciplinary services in virtually every area of the environmental sciences and engineering. Komex has more than 300 employees around the world.
* Tom Fredericks, CEO, and Don Bietz, executive vice-president of ECL Group of Companies Ltd. The ECL Group has three primary divisions — trucking, oilfield services and environmental — and owns and operates more than 280 trucks and 500 trailers. Employee numbers have grown to 550 in offices in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
* Randy Remington, chairman of Remington Development Corporation. Started in 1994, the company has built 60 to 70 commercial buildings, large and small, valued at more than $350 million. The company’s role is to act as the general contractor on projects.
* Kelly Streit, president and founder of Mode Models International Inc. He’s a small-town Alberta man known around the world. Streit’s prairie modelling agency has provided more than 100 supermodels to the international fashion scene. Mode Models operates out of three offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Portland, each office handling about 150 models.
* Hatim Zaghloul, chairman and CEO of Wi-LAN. The company, founded in 1992, is a leading innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications. Wi-LAN’s products have been sold in more than 50 countries on six continents.
The Pinnacle Awards were created in 1987 by business law firm Fraser Milner Casgrain to acknowledge local entrepreneurs who have a proven business track record of five to seven years growth and success. Since their inception, the awards have recognized 114 winners.
