Sierra Systems Group Inc. has announced the departure of its chairman and CEO after restructuring charges at the information-technology firm resulted in a fourth-quarter loss of $2 million.

Board member Ian Reid, who worked with the departing Grant Gisel for 31 years and is a former chief financial officer, has been appointed president and CEO on an interim basis.

Board member Peter Webb, a former vice-president of IBM Canada, has been elected non-executive chairman.

Great Canadian Gaming Corp. (TSX:GCD) has a new president and chief operating officer.

Anthony Martin previously held the title of chief financial officer.

Howard Hum will assume the role of acting chief financial officer during the period in which the company will be recruiting for the position.

Great Canadian Gaming Corp. is a multi-jurisdictional gaming operator.

Mark Cruise has joined Cardero Resource Corp. (TSXV:CDU) as vice- president of exploration.

Cruise comes from Anglo American plc’s Vancouver office, where he held the position of senior geologist and was responsible for the company’s copper and zinc portfolio.

Cardero is an exploration and development company with projects in Mexico, Peru and Argentina.

Goldnev Resources Inc. (TSXV:GNZ) has appointed Ron Jorgensen as chief financial officer.

Jorgensen has 15 years of experience in corporate finance, public accounting and consulting.

Goldnev is a precious-metals mining company based in Vancouver.

CanAlaska Ventures Ltd. (TSXV: CVV, OTCBB: CVVLF) has appointed Karl Schimann as the manager of its uranium exploration division.

CanAlaska said Schimann brings extensive geological and mine-evaluation skills to the company.

CanAlaska Ventures is a diversified mineral exploration company with uranium and gold projects in North America and New Zealand.

Michael Gallagher has taken on the role of president for Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT) in addition to his current role as chief operating officer.

The company said David Demers will continue as its chief executive officer.

Westport develops gaseous fuel-engine technologies.

The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of British Columbia (ICBA) has elected Surrey-based electrical contractor Peter Krause to a one-year term as president.

Krause said his priorities over the next year will be to ensure that ICBA continues to be active in developing safety and training programs that will attract and retain skilled workers for the industry.

Two other Surrey residents have been elected to ICBA’s executive for 2004-05. Jim Laurence will serve as vice-president and Bob Fairbank has been elected secretary.

Other executive members include treasurer Kurt Krampl and association past-president John Knappett.

CHC Helicopter Corp. (CHC) has appointed former helicopter pilot Sylvain Allard, the company’s current president, as its new chief executive, replacing longtime CEO Craig Dobbin.

Dobbin assumes a new role as executive chairman of the Vancouver-based company.

CHC (TSX:FLY.B) provides flight services to the global offshore oil and gas industry, with aircraft operating in more than 30 countries and 3,400 employees.

Mining giant Teck Cominco is bringing in CIBC World Markets president Donald Lindsay on Jan. 1 to be groomed for the job of chief executive.

Lindsay is a mining engineer by training.

Norman Keevil, chairman of Teck Cominco (TSX:TEK), said Lindsay will likely be appointed CEO following David Thompson’s retirement from the position in April.

Thompson is expected to remain on the company’s board as a director after Lindsay takes over.

Alberta Star Development Corp. (TSXV:ASX, OTCBB:ASXSF) has appointed Peter Read as senior exploration consultant.

Read brings more than 45 years of mineral exploration experience to Alberta Star and its exploration team.

Alberta Star is a Canadian mineral exploration company primarily focused on gold, uranium and base metals.

A&W Food Services CEO Jeff Mooney is retiring as CEO on Feb. 15, but will remain as the company’s non-executive chairman.

The Vancouver-based restaurant operator said Mooney will be replaced as CEO by Paul Hollands, A&W’s current president and chief operating officer.

The restaurant company also announced that Axel Rehkatsch, its chief financial officer, will also retire Feb. 15.

A&W Food Services (TSX:AW.UN) franchises and operates more than 640 restaurants across Canada.

David Stirling has been named vice-president of business development for WordLogic Corp.’s newly created educational division.

Prior to joining WordLogic (OTCBB:WLGC), Stirling was principal of Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School and director of the Houpsitas Adult Learning Centre in Kyuquot, B.C.

Wordlogic’s technology suite provides a method of text entry for computing and devices ranging from small hand-held devices to conventional desktop computers.
