Web developers are in demand as Internet/intranet development tops the list of skills most sought by information technology (IT) executives.
In the semi-annual RHI Consulting Hot Jobs Report, 20 per cent of IT executives said web development is the fastest-growing job specialty within their departments.
Networking was identified as the second most sought-after skill with 15 per cent of the response. Help desk/end-user support was third (14 per cent).
The Hot Jobs Report tracks job growth in information technology through a survey of more than 270 chief information officers (CIOs) across Canada in companies with 100 or more employees.
The seven areas experiencing the strongest growth in Canadian corporate IT departments, as ranked by CIOs, are:
1. Internet/intranet development: 20 per cent
2. Networking: 15 per cent
3. Help desk/end-user support: 14 per cent
4. Data/database management: 12 per cent
5. Applications development: 10 per cent
6. Project management: five per cent
7. Systems analysis: three per cent
