Ivanhoe Mines (TSX:IVN) is promoting John Macken to president and chief executive officer.
Macken has been president and chief operating officer. He joined Ivanhoe in 2003.
Ivanhoe founder Robert Friedland, 55, relinquishes the CEO title, remaining executive chairman. Its share price sideswiped by a Mongolian tax increase, Ivanhoe continues to develop its Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine in that country. In other executive changes: Chief financial officer Peter Meredith becomes deputy chairman in charge of business development and corporate relations.
Former president Ed Flood remains deputy chairman overseeing exploration and investor relations.
Tony Giardini joins Vancouver-based Ivanhoe as chief financial officer after a decade with Placer Dome Inc.
Teck Cominco (TSX:TEK.SV.B) has hired Peter Kukielski to be its chief operating officer.
Kukielski was most recently executive vice-president and COO at Falconbridge - a company entangled in Teck's proposed $17.8-billion takeover bid for nickel giant Inco Ltd.
The Vancouver-based mining company also announced the retirement of Michael Lipkewich, a senior vice-president.
Teck Cominco produces zinc and metallurgical coal as well as copper, gold and specialty metals. The company is making a hostile bid for Inco, a move conditional on Inco dropping its $15-billion takeover offer for Falconbridge.
Following its recent listing on the TSXV (NUS), Nautilus Minerals Inc. has announced the newest members of its management team: COO Anthony O'Sullivan, VP of corporate development Michael Johnston,VP of exploration Justin Baulch and VP of sustainability Glenn Creed.
Johnston, Baulch and Creed join the company from Placer Dome. O'Sullivan joins Nautilus from BHP Billiton.

Bill Myckatyn will be retiring as CEO of Quadra Mining Ltd. (TSX:QUA) effective June 30 following the annual general meeting. Myckatyn will become chairman of the base-metal mining company.
Company president Paul Blythe will become president and CEO, while Alexander Laird will move from chairman to lead independent director.
Quadra's head office is in Vancouver.
Senior VP and CFO Jo Mark Zurel has resigned from CHC Helicopter Corp. (TSX:FLY.SV.A, FLY.MV.B; NYSE: FLI) for personal reasons.
CHC's VP of financial reporting, Rick Davis, has been appointed as acting CFO while a search is under way for a permanent replacement.
Based in Vancouver, CHC is the world's largest provider of helicopter services to the global offshore oil and gas industry.
The City of North Vancouver has appointed deputy finance director Isabel Gordon to the position of finance director effective September 2006.
She will replace Terry Christie, who is retiring.
Gordon has been with the city for 17 years. For the past year, she has been sharing the role of waterfront project development manager and will continue in the dual role for the short term.
Goldbrook Ventures Inc. has appointed Bill Stone as VP of exploration. Prior to joining Goldbrook, Stone served as VP of exploration for Nevada Star Resource Corp. and principal geologist for Geoinformatics Exploration Ltd.

Quantum computer developer D-Wave has appointed Silicon Valley technology executive and entrepreneur Herbert Martin as CEO. Martin brings to D-Wave decades of experience with early-stage companies.
The company also said D-Wave founder and former CEO Geordie Rose has been named chief technology officer. D-Wave's corporate office is in Burnaby.
Empower Technologies Corp. (TSXV:EPT) of Richmond has appointed K.T. Ma as COO and senior VP of business development of its U.S. subsidiary Empower Technologies, Inc.
Ma is currently serving as an adviser for the College of Business at the University of Dallas in Texas.
Founded in 2000, Empower develops Linux-based operating software and embedded system technologies and services for consumer electronics manufacturers and developers.
Triumph Gold Corp. (TSXV:TAU) has named James Baughman as president and CEO. Baughman was formerly president of High Plains Uranium.
He replaces Peter Parsley, who has resigned as president and CEO of Triumph. Parsley will remain as a member of the board of directors.
Triumph is an exploration and development company with a key gold property located in Venezuela. It is based in Vancouver.
