Thanks for Kenton Friesen’s good column about secondary suites and the need for more progressive legislation.
I’m a member of the Calgary Homeless Foundation’s Public Affairs Committee and one of our key messages is that Calgary is drastically short of second-stage housing – meaning the housing people need after they have been in emergency shelters for a while, and are ready to move on to something more permanent and private. Legalized basement suites could go a long way toward easing Calgary’s second-stage housing shortage.
