Calgary lawyer William (Bill) Warren, Q.C., has been elected the University of Calgary’s 10th chancellor.

Warren, who served three years as a member of the U of C Senate, will begin his four-year term June 14.

Warren has a long history of volunteer involvement, most recently as president of the Canadian Olympic Association.

Edmonton-based biotechnology firm Biomira Inc. has named physician Guy Ely to the position of vice-president of clinical and regulatory affairs.

Ely was previously responsible for global clinical development and medical affairs of oncology products at Lorus Therapeutics Inc. and before that was associate medical director of SmithKline Beecham Canada Inc.

Biomira (BIOM-Nasdaq; BRA-TSE) specializes in the development of therapeutic approaches to cancer management.

Oil Sands Inc. has a new president. Former chairman and chief executive Guy Turcotte has taken over the post to replace Tim Winterer, who resigned last December.

As well, independent director Geoffrey Cumming has been named chairman of the Calgary-based oilsands company (WTO-TSE).

International Datashare Corporation has named Todd Chuckry as vice-chairman and managing director. Chuckry is the former president and CEO of ReQuest Seismic Surveys Ltd., a seismic data owner and service providers.

In his new role, Chuckry will be involved in corporate strategy, business development and the promotion of iDc’s suite of data, software and services to the oil and gas sector.

Don Baird has resigned as executive vice-president and COO of Gimbel Vision International Inc.

As well, Craig Lavelle has stepped down from the board of directors for regulatory reasons involving the number of resident Canadians. He continues to serve as president and CEO.

Kim Lucas will take the helm of CV Technologies as CEO and president, effective April 22.

Dr. Peter Pang, CVT’s founder, will relinquish his interim role as CEO and president at that time.

Lucas comes to CV Technologies from 3M Pharmaceuticals, where he served as national sales manager. He has more than 15 years experience in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical and other industries.
