Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (TSX:MBT) has promoted Dean Prevost to president of its enterprise solutions division. He succeeds John MacDonald who retires after six years with the company. Prevost was previously MBT's chief corporate officer. Chris Peirce, the chief regulatory officer, becomes CCO. Peirce joined the company in 1999. Paul Beauregard, vice-president legal, becomes VP and general counsel.

Peter Falk, QC, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, will focus exclusively on his responsibilities as corporate secretary to the board. The company said these appointments streamline the executive management team to eight members from 10 effective Jan. 1. Headquartered in Winnipeg, MTS Allstream Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc.

Paul Godfrey, a former politician and newspaper publisher who headed the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team for eight years, will become president and CEO of the National Post next month. Canwest Global Communications (TSX:CGS) says Godfrey, 69, will officially join the National Post on Jan. 1. Godfrey's resignation from the Jays was announced in September and becomes effective Dec. 31. Publisher Gordon Fisher will continue to focus on the daily operations of the National Post and Financial Post brands while Godfrey will oversee business development and opening up new revenue streams, the Winnipeg-based newspaper operator and broadcaster said. Godfrey is a former senior executive with Quebecor's Sun Media newspaper group.

49 North Resource Fund Inc. (TSXV:FNR) has hired Sandip Rana, CA, as chief financial officer. He will also be the CFO and a director of 49 North 2008 Resource Fund Inc., the general partner of 49 North 2008 Resource Flow-Through Limited Partnership. FNR said Rana replaces Ronald Walker who has retired as CFO and a director of both companies. Rana is currently VP of corporate finance for a luxury hotel management company. 49 North is a group of investment funds and companies focused on the mining and oil and gas sectors in Saskatchewan and beyond. Its head office is in Saskatoon.
