Merit Contractors Association of Alberta has named its new chairperson and executive committee for 2002-2003.
Don Daly, president of Edmonton-based electrical contractor Territorial Electric Ltd., is the newly elected chairman after serving as vice-chair for the 2001/02 term.
The new association vice-chairman is Michael Tumback of Cana Management Ltd. Max Welz Jr. of G.R. Byer & Associates Ltd. will serve as secretary-treasurer.
Executive committee members volunteer their time and expertise to provide leadership and direction to the non-profit association and its membership of 720 construction firms.

Maureen MacDonald is the new vice-president, while Henry Stevens, Colleen Killingsworth and Allison Kalmakoff have joined as consultants.
The four communications specialists previously worked at FWJ Advertising and Public Relations in Calgary.

In addition to his current responsibilities as chairman and CEO, Ashraf Zaghloul has been appointed president of the company on an interim basis. Ashraf will focus his efforts in Eastern Canada to increase market share.
Essam Zaghloul has been appointed executive VP Western Canada, and will focus on increasing business and profitability in the West. He will continue to be responsible for investor relations.

Biz IQ Inc. has brought Michael Finn onboard as vice-president of business development. Also joining the company as an associate is Leonard Johnson.
Finn, a senior sales and marketing executive, is a former director of marketing at QuorTech Solutions Ltd.
Johnson was previously president and CEO of Enhance Systems Inc.
Biz-IQ is a Calgary-based multi-disciplined senior management firm offering full- and part-time contract management along with executive mentoring.

Roland Labuhn has joined Quorum Business Solutions Inc. He will oversee management of the Calgary office, and head up business development and sales for the Canadian market.
Previously, Labuhn worked seven years with Deloitte Consulting, managing key projects in the energy industry.
He is a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) and the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada.
Quorum Business Solutions is a product-centered services company that develops and supports industry-standard applications across a wide range of businesses. The company has more than 150 staff operating out of offices in Dallas, Houston and Calgary.

Edmonton technology consultant Walter Schwabe has joined GRAPHOS.ca as vice-president of corporate development.
Schwabe will head up GRAPHOS Consulting Group, a new division of the company aimed at helping clients understand the intricacies of IT projects. He’ll also work with the GRAPHOS.ca creative and development teams to implement a number of new initiatives.
Schwabe’s previous clients have included the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), The Business Link and the City of St. Albert.
