Phil Sorgen has joined Microsoft Canada Co. as president.

Sorgen has been with Microsoft Corp. since 1996. Before coming to Canada, he was general manager for Microsoft's Gulf Coast district.

Established in 1985, Microsoft Canada Co. is the Canadian subsidiary of Microsoft Corp. Its head office is in Mississauga.

Kitchener-based snack-food producer Humpty Dumpty Snack Foods Inc. (TSX:SNX) has named former Maple Leaf Foods Ltd. executive Darek Nowakowski as its president and CEO.

Nowakowski was general manager and vice-president of Maple Leaf's fresh foods group.

Humpty Dumpty also said chief financial officer Lois Norris is leaving the company but will remain until April 28.

DaimlerChrysler Canada has appointed Judith Wheeler as VP of marketing.

Wheeler comes from DaimlerChrysler Corp. in Auburn Hills, Mich., where she was most recently the director of Dodge marketing and FWD product planning.

Wheeler replaces Michael Accavitti, who has been appointed to the new position of director of Dodge motorsports and SRT product planning and marketing in Auburn Hills.

Dalsa Corp. (TSX:DSA) has appointed Brian Doody to the new position of COO. He will be responsible for overseeing all the company's internal operations, including both the digital imaging components and semiconductor businesses.

Doody had been president of Dalsa Digital Imaging since 1999.

Dalsa Corp. is based in Waterloo.

Western Troy Capital Resources Inc. (TSXV:WRY) has named Wayne Holmstead as vice-president of exploration.

Western Troy is a mineral exploration company based in Toronto. Its main focus is its wholly owned MacLeod Lake property in northern Quebec.

Plasma Environmental Technologies Inc. (TSXV:PE), a Canadian company that turns waste into clean energy, has named Wayne Maddever as interim CEO. The current CEO, John Wright, is on a leave of absence, the company said.

Maddever is principal of bbp Consulting.

Plasma Environmental has corporate headquarters in Burlington.

SIR Corp. (TSX:SRV.UN) and SIR Royalty Income Fund have appointed Jeff Good as chief financial officer of SIR. Good, who has been interim CFO since November, has been with SIR for more than five years.

SIR is a privately held Canadian corporation that owns and operates more than 36 restaurants in Canada. The SIR fund receives distribution income from its investment in the SIR Royalty Limited Partnership. SIR is headquartered in Burlington.

Baffinland Iron Mines Corp. (TSXV:BIM) has hired Rodney Cooper as VP of operations and COO, effective March 1.

He has more than 25 years of experience, most recently as VP for technical services at Kinross Gold Corp.

Baffinland is a mining junior focused on its Mary River project on Baffin Island in Nunavut Territory. Its head office is in Toronto.

Business law firm Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) has appointed Ralph Shay to head its Toronto securities practice.

Shay is returning to FMC from his position as director of takeover bids, mergers and acquisitions at the Ontario Securities Commission, a position he had held since 2001.

Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP has more than 500 lawyers in six Canadian offices, and an office in New York.

Wireless security company AirIQ Inc. (TSX:IQ) is cutting its staff by about 20 jobs and making two senior appointments "to accelerate profitability."

As part of the reorganization, David Brandos and Colin Zvaniga are joining AirIQ's senior executive team.

The company operates as a wireless Internet applications provider. AirIQ is based in Pickering.

Corporate law firm McMillan Binch Mendelsohn LLP has named Andrew Kent as its chief executive officer, to succeed managing partner Graham Scott.

Toronto's McMillan Binch LLP and Montreal-based Mendelsohn GP combined businesses last March. The merged firm specializes in business law with clients in all sectors of the economy.

Paul Hill has been named COO of Clarity Systems. Hill brings more than 15 years of software experience and will oversee Clarity's sales and marketing divisions. He was most recently executive VP of sales and marketing at MediSolution.

Toronto-based Clarity Systems provides corporate performance management software.

Aastra Technologies Ltd. (TSX:AAH) has appointed Yves Laliberte as its executive vice-president.

Laliberte has more than 20 years of experience in the telecom and networking markets, including recent service as vice-president of strategic alliances at Avaya Canada Corp.

Aastra markets telephones, private branch exchanges, digital video encoders and decoders, and related equipment. Its head office is in Concord.

Strategic Vista International Inc. (TSX:SVI), a developer of digital video and security surveillance products, has named Henry Schnurbach as CEO effective April 1, succeeding Bernie Klein, who remains chairman of the board.

Schnurbach has been a director of Strategic Vista since its inception in 1997 and will leave his current position as president and CEO of Polyair Inter Pack Inc.

Strategic Vista develops and manufactures video security solutions. Its corporate office is in Markham.
