Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray has won a Gold Achievement award from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB).
Syncrude was one of three Canadian companies recognized for demonstrating commitment and leadership in hiring aboriginal workers.
The award was made at the Fourth Annual Circle for 2015 Gala Dinner in Toronto last week.
Ten companies entered the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program as pioneer members when it was launched in early 2001, including Syncrude.
PAR provides a framework for businesses and other organizations to self-assess their approach to the aboriginal marketplace and tools to help them improve their performance.
The program is based on mutual understanding and respect, motivated by enlightened self-interest.
“Last year we announced the first 10 companies to join the program and invited other organizations to apply,” said Jocelyne Soulodre, CCAB president and CEO. “This year we have five new names to add to the list,” she added.
Among the newcomers to the list is Calgary-based E-Tronics Inc.
Two other Alberta-based companies were among the first 10 companies to enter the program.
Alberta Pacific Forest Industries of Boyle and BP Canada Energy Company in Calgary will have their self-assessments verified in the next few months during onsite inspections by the National Quality Institute, CCAB’s field operations partner for PAR.
The CCAB is dedicated to promoting the full participation of aboriginal communities in the Canadian economy.
