Randall Eresman is the new chief operating officer and senior executive vice-president of EnCana Corporation.
Eresman assumes leadership of EnCana’s international oil and gas exploration and production activities. He has held senior roles at firms including Alberta Energy Company Ltd. and AEC Oil & Gas.
Calgary-based EnCana (ECA-TSX; ECA-NYSE) is North America’s largest independent natural gas producer and gas storage operator.
Former Alberta auditor general Peter Valentine has been appointed interim vice-president (finance and services) and special adviser to the president on strategic planning at the University of Calgary.
Valentine is already a senior adviser to both the Calgary Health Region and the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the U of C. He’ll continue with these roles, but also be responsible for overall development of the university’s budget, finance and process improvement along with strategic planning.
He replaces Phyllis Heaphy, who has submitted her resignation.
TRLabs has appointed two business development team members. Dave Morley joins the company as director, business development. The newly created position will focus on attracting major industry partners.
Morley comes from a four-year role as research engineer at TRLabs. His position is located in Calgary.
Lisa Bako joins TRLabs as manager, business associates program. The newly established program aims to create new growth-oriented partnerships with information and communications technology (ICT) supporting industries such as venture capital, accounting and law. Her position is located in Winnipeg.
TRLabs is Canada’s leading ICT research consortium.
The dean of the Haskayne School of Business is leaving Calgary to become the dean of the school of business at Queen’s University.
David Saunders takes up his new position on July 1.
Under Saunders’ leadership, the University of Calgary’s Haskayne school was ranked for the first time among the Top 100 global business schools.
Shell Canada’s chief financial officer is retiring effective March 31 after almost 39 years of service with Shell.
Cathy Williams, currently controller, Shell Europe Oil Products in London, will replace Steinar Støtvig as CFO effective April 1.
Williams joined Shell Canada as a senior
analyst in 1984 and progressed through assignments, beginning her current international posting in 2001.
Shell Canada’s corporate office is in Calgary.
Jose Briceno has been appointed to oversee the Asian operations of NovAtel Inc.
Based in Tokyo, Briceno will play a key role in expanding and supporting Calgary-based NovAtel’s business in Asia. Briceno will continue his current role as managing director of i-qube technologies ltd.
NovAtel Inc. (NGPS-Nasdaq) designs and markets products that determine geographic locations using the Global Positioning System.
Tom Alford has resigned as CFO of Wise Wood Energy Ltd. (WWX-TSXV). He will continue as a director of the company.
Courtney Shearer has been appointed to the position of
vice-president, operations. He joined Wise Wood in April 2002 as manager of operations.
Guy J. Turcotte, board chairman and chief executive officer of Fort Chicago Energy Management Ltd., will relinquish his position as CEO effective Dec. 31 due to the demands on his time as CEO of Western Oil Sands Inc. He will continue as board chairman.
Stephen H. White has been appointed new president and CEO of FCEM effective Jan. 1. He has been the president and CFO since Fort Chicago was formed in 1997.
FCEM is the general partner of Fort Chicago Energy Partners L.P. (FCE.UN-TSX), which is involved in the transportation, storage, marketing and processing of hydrocarbons.
Wade Forsyth has joined AGTI Consulting Services (West). Prior to joining AGTI, Wade held the position of vice-president at a global technology solutions provider.
He will be responsible for creating opportunities to help clients with their IT challenges.
AGTI offers IT consulting and project management services in four Canadian cities.
Gijs van Rooijen has been named to the new position of chief scientific officer at Calgary-based Genome Prairie.
Van Rooijen’s doctoral studies at the University of Calgary established the foundation for the molecular farming applications of SemBioSys Genetics, where he became head of cellular and molecular biology.
Genome Prairie is one of five genome centres established by Genome Canada. Genome Canada is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to developing a national strategy in genomics and proteomics research.

Netzel brings more than 18 years of experience in estate and succession planning, including past positions with National Life of Canada, PPI Financial Group and Sun Life of Canada. He is the immediate past-president of the Estate Planning Council of Calgary.
