Petro-Canada has named Norman McIntyre as its new president.

McIntyre replaces Ron Brenneman, who will continue as chief executive officer of the Calgary-based corporation.The executive-level changes come as Petro-Canada undergoes a significant expansion of its international activity resulting from last week’s $3.2-billion acquisition of the Germany-based Veba Oil & Gas upstream business from BP PLC.

In his new role, McIntyre will represent Petro-Canada’s interests in aligning the newly acquired international assets with the corporation’s strategy and direction. Based in London, he will continue to play a senior role on the executive leadership team, and will provide advice and counsel to the CEO on matters of business policy and overall strategy.

McIntyre, a petroleum engineer, has been with the corporation for 20 years, most recently as executive vice-president responsible for upstream operations. He was Canadian chairman of the organization for the World Petroleum Congress (held in Calgary in June 2000), chairman of the Calgary United Way campaign and chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

Christy Leonard has been appointed manager of business development for Edmonton-based Paziuk Professional Placements Inc.

Leonard brings three years of sales and marketing experience in the Edmonton market along with 12 years of human resource and staffing services experience from California.

Paziuk Professional Placements Inc. is an Alberta-based staffing services company which provides full-time and temporary staffing in all areas of human resources.

Canada Safeway Limited is making some changes at the top.

The Calgary-based corporation has announced that president and COO Grant Hansen will assume the post of chairman at the end of this month. Chuck Mulvenna, currently vice-president of retail operations, will take on the role of president and COO on Feb. 28.

Hansen, a 39-year veteran of Canada Safeway, has headed the company since 1995 and prior to that held a variety of retail management positions in Manitoba and British Columbia.

Mulvenna joined Safeway 33 years ago as a part-time courtesy clerk while attending school in Winnipeg, where he later managed four stores. Subsequent assignments took him to Saskatoon as a district manager and to Calgary as vice-president of stores in that area before assuming his current position last year.

Canada Safeway operates 213 stores in Canada and has 28,000 employees.

The expansion of Edmonton-based Rice Engineering & Operating Ltd. is continuing with the appointment of a new business development manager.

A marketing and sales management diploma graduate of NAIT, Jim MacGregor spent 10 years as a senior technical sales and marketing representative with Northland Energy Company, until it was acquired by Precision Drilling in 1998.

Rice Engineering is the western Canadian representative of The Pipe Line Development Company’s pipe-line repair and maintenance products. It also manufactures and markets Duoline, Riceline and Ricewrap products across Canada.

George Crookshank has resigned as the chief financial officer of EnSource to pursue other business opportunities. He will remain with the company for a period of time during the transition.

EnSource says it expects to make an announcement on his replacement in the near future.

EnSource (EEN-TSE) is a publicly traded energy service company that provides oil and gas exploration and production companies with a full suite of integrated products and services.

Content Incorporated is back in business with some new faces. The Calgary firm, which offers a range of services such as business plan writing, disclosure document production and media relations, has been relaunched with Erin Waite at the helm.

Joining Waite will be Pam Brandt and Lisa Brake, formerly of national public relations company Opsis Communications and Marketing.

Micralyne Inc. has announced two promotions.

Bruce Alton has been named vice-president of marketing and business development, and Jim Ramsden director of sales for telecommunications and electronics product offerings.

Alton was previously director of business development. Prior to Micralyne he held executive positions in both technology and venture capital companies in Alberta.

Ramsden was the former account manager for Micralyne. He previously held sales positions in other advanced material and technology companies in Alberta.

Micralyne, a private company based in Edmonton, uses MEMS (micromachining and microfluidic technologies) to produce miniaturized components that enable improvements in telecommunications and bioanalysis instrumentation.
