Michael Donnell is the new chief executive officer of Zi Corporation, based in Calgary.

He replaces Michael Lobsinger, who has resigned after 10 years as CEO and co-founder of the firm (ZIC-TSX; ZICA-NASDAQ). Lobsinger continues as chairman of the board of directors.

Donnell joined Zi Corporation last July as president and chief operating officer. He has more than 18 years of senior management experience in the wireless industry, including a term as CEO of Cellular One in San Francisco.

Zi Corporation is a technology company that delivers intelligent interface services.

Jocelyn Burgener has been appointed to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce’s management team as special adviser, public affairs. Working on a contract basis, she will be responsible for the chamber’s public policy initiatives.

Burgener was MLA for Calgary Currie from 1993-2001, and is president of Segue Consulting Intl. Prior to her role in politics, she was public affairs co-ordinator for Canada Safeway.

Burgener will step down from the chamber’s board of directors to take on her new position.

Lawrence Kluthe has been appointed public member of the governing council of the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association.

Kluthe, who was appointed earlier this month by Human Resources & Employment Minister Clint Dunford, is a resident of Morinville and is mayor of Sturgeon County.

He replaces Ernie Isley, a former government cabinet minister who has served as the council’s public representative since 1997.

Kluthe was previously vice-chairman of the Metis Settlements Appeal Tribunal and former chairman of the Edmonton Regional Planning Committee.

Formed in 1910, the surveyors’ association is a self-governing professional association legislated under the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Act.

Stephanie Jackman has been named national client marketing director for Calgary-based Venture Communications.

Jackman, an expert in brand development and management, will oversee client marketing teams responsible for implementation of all marketing programs. She will also continue her work with the company as a senior strategist.

Prior to joining Venture in early 2002, Jackman ran her own company – Blueprint Brand Strategies Inc. – and held senior roles with Ogilvy & Mather and Brand Insights Group (Ogilvy’s account planning division).

Venture is an independent marketing communications firm. The company operates wholly owned branch offices in Edmonton and Ottawa.

Brent Thompson has been named president of Wardrop Engineering Inc.

Thompson is currently president of Wardrop Technology Solutions LLC, Wardrop’s U.S.-based operations.

In one of his first moves as president of the company, he opened a new office in Calgary this fall.

Thompson joined Wardrop in 1988 as a hydrogeologist with the company’s international division. He spent five years working on Wardrop’s infrastructure projects in Nigeria and Ghana before moving to Thunder Bay in the mid 1980s.

He was appointed a principal of the company and general manager of the northern Ontario operations in 1997, became a managing director in 1998, and was appointed a senior vice-president in 2001 with expanded responsibilities.

Wardrop is an international consulting firm providing integrated engineering, environmental, information technology and business services through its North American and overseas operations.

Changes are underfoot at Calgary-based Wireless Networks Inc.

The company has named a new executive team. They are: president and CEO Ken Bowie, operations vice-president Jeff Screen, engineering vice-president Kevin Adair and corporate secretary Gary Bugeaud.

AMJ Campbell Van Lines Inc. has promoted Douglas Jasper to the position of vice-president and general manager of its Calgary operation.

Jasper has 14 years of experience with the company, including five years as general manager of AMJ Campbell Office Movers. The company is a privately held subsidiary of AMJ Campbell Inc. which operates residential, corporate, office and international moving in Calgary.
