Peters & Co. Ltd. has appointed the firm's senior corporate finance executive, Christopher Potter, as its new president. Potter replaces Ian Bruce, who will continue as the firm's CEO. Potter has been with the company for 13 years and was most recently managing director of corporate finance. Peters & Co. is a Calgary-based investment company specializing in the oil and natural gas and oilfield services industries.
Smart Technologies Inc. has named Brian McGurk to the position of vice-president of people services. For the past three years, McGurk held the position of VP of human resources for a multinational income trust. Smart, a private company founded in 1987, supplies ICT products that are suitable for interactive display applications. Its head office is in Calgary with offices in Bonn, Tokyo, New York City and Washington, D.C.
Blackdog Resources Ltd. (TSX:DOG) of Calgary has appointed Linda Legere-Tetzlaff as chief financial officer. She was most recently at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Blackdog is a junior oil and gas company.
Alter Nrg Corp. (TSXV:NRG) has named James Fitzowich to the position of chief operating officer. Fitzowich is an energy executive with 20 years of experience in the electric power industry in North America. Alter Nrg is a development-stage firm involved in alternative energy. The company, which earlier this year reorganized from a trust to a corporate structure and completed an IPO, is based in Calgary.
James McIndoe, president and CEO of NuLoch Resources Inc. (TSXV: NLR.A, NLR.B), has decided to step back from his day-to-day management roles, but remain a director. He will be succeeded by Glenn Dawson, currently executive VP. The transition is effective Oct. 1. Dawson and McIndoe were co-founders of TriLoch Resources Inc. in 2001, the predecessor company to NuLoch. In other company moves, Brian Murray has been promoted to the position of executive VP and will continue as the CFO. Rod Findlater has joined NuLoch in the position of VP of land. Findlater's most recent executive position was VP of land and acquisitions with Atlas Energy Ltd. Calgary-based NuLoch is a junior oil and gas exploration and development company.
Longford Corp. (TSXV: LFD), a Calgary-based energy company, has appointed Ahmed Said as its new president and CEO, and a director. Said replaces David Walters, who has resigned. Niels Gundersen also has resigned as executive VP and COO of the company. The changes come as Longford carries out a strategic review of its oil and gas operations in Alberta and Alabama. The company did not provide any specifics of its strategic review, but said it will lead to a change in focus on energy projects overseas.
Pengrowth Management Ltd. has a new VP of business development. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Robert Nicolay was president and CEO of the Calgary Olympic Development Association.
Pengrowth Management, a privately owned and operated Calgary firm, is the manager of Pengrowth Corp. and Pengrowth Energy Trust (TSX: PGF.UN, NYSE:PGH).
True Energy Inc., the administrator of True Energy Trust (TSX: TUI.UN), has appointed Wayne Chorney to chief executive officer and a director. This follows the resignation of Paul Baay as True's chairman and CEO. Baay, who has been with True since its founding in 2000, remains a director. Chorney joined True in May of 2007 as president and chief operating officer. True is an oil and gas trust with a head office in Calgary.
Trident Resources Corp. and its primary subsidiary, Trident Exploration Corp. (TEC), have had two resignations: Paul O'Donoghue as VP of corporate and strategic development and corporate secretary, and Randy Neely as CFO. Trident says both men are pursuing other opportunities. Trident develops coal-bed methane in Alberta. Its head office is in Calgary.
Cordy Oilfield Services Inc. (TSXV:CKK) has made some executive appointments. Allen Cameron is the company's new president and Bob Brunt the new COO. The two have been working in advisory and consulting roles with Cordy since January. In addition, David Orr is Cordy's new senior VP. Orr previously served as the company's VP of corporate development. Based in Calgary, Cordy owns businesses in the oilfield services and construction sectors and is implementing a strategy of growth through acquisition.
Luke Azevedo has joined Calgary Economic Development (CED) as the new commissioner for film, TV and creative industries. Prior to joining CED, Luke was the director of the creative electronic environment as well as the acting director of literary arts at The Banff Centre.
Dan MacDonald, president and a director of Challenger Energy Corp. (TSXV: CHQ, AMEX:CHQ), has been appointed CEO. He assumes the role from Neil MacKenzie, who remains a director. Challenger is a Calgary-based oil and gas exploration company currently pursuing oil and gas plays offshore Trinidad and Tobago and offshore Nova Scotia.
Ward Mallabone, COO of EnerVest Energy and Oil Sands Total Return Trust (TSX:EOS.UN), is leaving to pursue other business opportunities. He will continue in a consulting capacity until yearend. EnerVest is a closed-end trust that invests in a portfolio of companies and income trusts involved in the oilsands, as well as traditional oil and gas royalty trusts. Its head office is in Calgary.
Edmonton Airports has added Paul Garbiar as VP of infrastructure and technology. Prior to joining Edmonton Airports, Garbiar held management positions with Bantrel Co. and Canadian Fertilizers Ltd. Edmonton Airports operates four airports in the Edmonton region.
