Wex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (TSX:WXI) says it has named a new president and CEO about a month after settling a lawsuit with its founder and former CEO. Bin Huang was formerly CEO of GeneHarbour Technologies in Hong Kong, and president and CEO of Cytovax Biotechnologies Inc. in Edmonton. She replaces Edge Wang, who had been interim CEO since 2005. Wex said it also is looking for a new chief financial officer a month after appointing Michael Lam to the job temporarily. Wex researches and develops drugs to treat pain.
Bayou Bend Petroleum Ltd. (TSXV:BBP) has promoted Mindy Stuart to the position of vice-president of asset development. She has held various petroleum engineering positions in the Gulf Coast for 23 years. Bayou Bend is an oil and gas exploration and production company based in Vancouver with a focus in the Gulf of Mexico shallow-water shelf area.
Channel Resources Ltd. (TSXV:CHU) says that, as a final step in the move of Channel's head office from Kelowna to Vancouver, Gordon Pettman has stepped down as CFO and Cyrus Ameli, formerly VP of corporate affairs, has been appointed in his place. Pettman will remain a consultant to Channel. Channel is a mineral exploration-stage company with projects in Ecuador, Burkina Faso and Quebec.
Kobex Resources Ltd. (TSXV:KBX) has appointed Samuel Yik as CFO. International Barytex Resources Ltd. (TSXV:IBX) also has appointed Yik as its CFO. Yik joins the companies after having spent the past three years in the resource sector where he served in various management roles. Kobex is focused on a molybdenum project in Colorado. IBX is advancing a feasibility study at a site in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their joint head office is in Vancouver.
Kimber Resources Inc. (TSX:KBR, AMEX:KBX) has appointed Lyn Davies as acting CFO, replacing Gordon Cummings, who was recently appointed president and chief executive officer. Davies had been working with Kimber on a contract basis to help document and evaluate internal controls. Based in Vancouver, Kimber owns mineral concessions in the prospective Sierra Madre gold-silver belt.
Gregor Hamilton will resign as StrataGold Corp.'s VP of corporate development effective Feb. 5. Hamilton is leaving to accept a senior investment banking position. StrataGold (TSX:SGV) is a Vancouver gold development company focused on two advanced-stage projects.
Jeannine Webb has resigned her positions as CFO and corporate secretary of Western Prospector Group Ltd. (TSXV:WNP). The Vancouver company has named Charles Pullin as its new CFO. He has served as a WNP director since June. Most recently, Pullin was VP and CFO at Viskase Companies, Inc. Western Prospector is focused on the Saddle Hills uranium project in northeastern Mongolia
Jim Pratt has been appointed CEO and Alan Maddox has been appointed president of Sepp's Gourmet Foods Ltd. (TSX:SGO), replacing Tom Poole who has stepped down. Poole will act as a consultant during the transition period, when the company is establishing an independent advisory board. Sepp's is a producer and marketer of specialty prepared foods for the retail grocery and food-service sectors in North and South America, and Asia. Its head office is in Delta.
Western Forest Products Inc. (TSX:WEF) has engaged Murray Johnston as CFO and VP of finance as of early January. He joins the Duncan-based company from Winpak Ltd. Johnston succeeds Paul Ireland who, as previously announced, will be resigning from the company after a transition period. Western is an integrated Canadian forest products company operating in the coastal region of B.C.
John DeCooman, Jr. is joining Candente Resource Corp. (TSX:DNT) as VP of finance and corporate development. He comes with 10 years of mining finance and advisory-related experience while at Deutsche Banc Alex Brown and Standard Bank Plc. Candente is a diversified exploration company based in Vancouver with mineral projects in Peru and Mexico.
UC Resources Ltd. (TSXV:UC) has recruited James Voisin as president and a director. Voisin is currently president of First Mexican Resources Inc. UC is a Vancouver exploration and production company with a focus on gold and silver opportunities in Mexico.
The Greater Victoria Economic Development Commission, also known as Business Victoria, has appointed Renee Colonnello as its new business services co-ordinator. She replaces James Hackett, who has moved on to work for the B.C. public service. Business Victoria assists entrepreneurs launching or growing their small business, and offers a wide range of business services.
