Re: Eye surgery team refocused on Alberta; January 9-15, 2003.

I do not consider myself to be particularly religious, but I believe in God and had Sunday School experience way back in the past. However, I was quite offended by the photograph used in the article about Dr. Howard Gimbel.

One hears all too often that some doctors think of themselves as gods, but I have never thought that a doctor would actually have a picture of himself operating on a patient – with Jesus superimposed into that same picture and having his hand on the doctor’s shoulder.

Of course, the implication would appear to be that this surgeon is “guided” by Jesus, and so, of course, nothing could go wrong. How nice for Dr. Gimbel that he considers himself one of the “chosen.”

This photograph apparently represents a painting that hangs in Dr. Gimbel’s office. It is in extremely poor taste, and I will not be surprised if you hear so from sources other than me.

(Business Edge) should have thought a bit longer about using this photograph. To my mind, this does not put Dr. Gimbel in a good light, and I would not go to him for eye surgery – specifically because of this article.
