Prof. Greg Kawchuk has been awarded Canada’s first chiropractic research chair.
The University of Calgary professor takes the position, which is devoted to chiropractic research and supported directly by the federal government.
The chair is a five-year funding commitment with both a salary award and an operating grant and requires an active faculty appointment. Kawchuk will take up the position of assistant professor in the U of C’s faculty of kinesiology.
He acts as the faculty’s course co-ordinator and lecturer for undergraduate human anatomy and supervises Master’s and Doctoral level graduate students.
Kawchuk graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1990 and completed his masters in biomechanics and PhD in bioengineering at the U of C.
Doug Graham, president of ATCO Pipelines, is the new chairman of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) for 2001-2002.

CEPA represents the interests of nine of Canada’s major crude oil and natural gas transmission pipeline companies.
Ross Undershute and Michael Moore have been appointed to senior positions with DC DiagnostiCare Inc.
Undershute has been named chief operating officer and Moore, chief financial officer.
Undershute is responsible for all clinical operations of the company and has been acting in this capacity since January, 2000.
Moore, a chartered accountant and professional engineer, will be responsible for all finance and accounting activities. Based in Edmonton, DC DiagnostiCare Inc. (DCE–TSE) provides medical imaging services through a network of more than 160 diagnostic imaging centres across Canada.
Stacie Wolfer has joined Iron Leaf Communications Inc. as manager of business development. Prior to joining Iron Leaf, Wolfer was a project expediter for oil and gas projects in the province. Most recently, she acted as a consultant with IdeaCa. Iron Leaf provides Internet communication solutions including intuitive Web-site design and phased in e-business solutions.
Jim Croft has been appointed general manager at Voyus Calgary.
Prior to joining Voyus, Croft was VP, sales at Jawz Technologies. He has held several sales management roles with IT service companies.
Voyus Calgary is a regional arm of Voyus Canada Inc. The company provides IT services including consulting, design, implementation and network security.
Omkar Nath Channan has been appointed a director and will serve as the secretary and treasurer of Remote Utilities Network Inc.
Channan replaces Gerald Peatz, who resigned his position in April to pursue other business interests.
Calgary-based Remote Utilities Network is in the process of assembling the resources needed to establish itself as a supplier of security systems for wireless multi-vehicle surveillance of motor vehicles.
Clifford Alexander has become the president and CEO of Aqua-Pure Ventures Inc. Alexander, who joined the company in October, 2000, was formerly the company’s COO.
Jacob Halldorson, former CEO, remains chair of the board of directors and will focus on product development.
Harold Lauman, former president, remains a director and will concentrate on municipal sales and market development.

Best Pacific Resources Ltd. (BPG–TSE) is a Calgary based company with extensive exploration and development activities in central Alberta and southeastern Saskatchewan.
Keith Smith has been appointed president and CEO of zed.i solutions inc. Smith has recently served as the company’s VP, corporate development. He replaces Trevor Apperley, who has left to pursue other business opportunities. Apperley continues to serve as a director.
Martin Lambert, a director, will assume additional duties as lead director of the company.
zed.i solutions (ZED–CDNX) designs, manufactures and distributes remote-access wireless technology used to monitor and measure, in real-time, remote assets used by the oil, natural gas, and pipeline industries.
Archie MacKinnon has joined the board of directors of BelAir Energy Corp.
MacKinnon is president and CEO of Sutterhill Capital Corp., a private investment banking corporation. Calgary-based, BelAir (BEC–TSE) is involved in the exploration and exploitation of petroleum reserves in western Canada.
Derek Martin has been appointed to the board of directors of Circle Energy Inc. Martin is president and director of Addington Equities Inc., a private investment company.
Circle has also announced the nomination of William Kaufmann to the board. Kaufmann is a geologist and has also served as COO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
Circle Energy Inc. (CEN–CDNX) holds oil and gas leases in Central Alberta, Saskatchewan and the southwestern U.S.
Greg Lamorie has been appointed president of Floron Food Services Ltd. Lamorie has been the general manager of Floron (FFS– CDNX) for the past three years and has 21 years experience in the food service and distribution industries.
Dr. James Tam, Dr. Eyal Raz and Dr. Peter O’Hanley have been appointed to the scientific advisory board of Cytovax Biotechnologies Inc. All three are U.S.-based and will act in an advisory capacity. Based in Edmonton, Cytovax is a Canadian biotechnology company focused on developing new approaches to combating infectious disease.
Jim Gray has been appointed to the board of directors of Phoenix Technology Services Ltd. Gray is chairman of Canadian Hunter, one of the country’s largest natural gas producers, and has 45 years experience in the oil and gas exploration business in Canada. Phoenix Technology Services is a directional and horizontal drilling service company based in Calgary.
