A Calgary satellite access service provider has teamed with a Quebec company to bring high-speed Internet connectivity to Nunavik (northern Quebec).
On April 8, Quick Link Communications Ltd.’s satellite hub lit up Nunavik’s first high-speed Internet service, called ‘ilagi’, which will be delivered by La fédération des cooperatives du Nouveau Québec (FCNQ) via satellite and cable networks.
FCNQ will deliver the new service to two communities initially, followed by 12 more in the future by deploying Quick Link’s CampusNet solution, which integrates satellite with FCNQ’s existing cable infrastructure.
“The launch of ilagi marks an exciting occasion as Quick Link and FCNQ are the first to bring high-speed Internet access to Nunavik,” said Chris Lewis, president and CEO of Quick Link Communications Ltd.
“We look forward to working with FCNQ to bring cost-effective Internet services to all 14 communities in Nunavik throughout the upcoming months.”
Privately held Quick Link Communications Ltd. is a telecommunications company headquartered in Calgary that owns and operates a satellite and terrestrial communications network. Quick Link provides a managed network of tailored services that integrate satellite technology with existing networks.
La fédération des cooperatives du Nouveau Québec, based in Montreal, provides a range of services to markets in 14 communities in Nunavik, including high-speed Internet connectivity and cable TV.
