The hunt is on to replace Ted Mieszkalski, who has tendered his resignation as managing director and COO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
Mieszkalski has devoted 13 years of service to the chamber, said president Barry Rempel, and has worked diligently to ensure the effectiveness of the organization and its policies.
Sherrold Moore, executive committee member and VP of finance for the Chamber, will step in on an interim basis until the search for a new candidate is completed.
John Ellwood has been named executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Foothills PipeLines Ltd.
Ellwood assumes full-time leadership of the joint venture company (held equally by Westcoast Energy Inc. and TransCanada PipeLines Ltd.) and will continue to be responsible for the completion of the Alaska Natural Gas Transpor-tation System (ANGTS).
“John has worked on the ANGTS or Alaska Highway Pipeline Project for much of the past 25 years and his understanding and experience makes him the best person to lead this project to a successful conclusion,” said Michael Stewart, co-chief executive officer of Foothills and an executive vice-president with Westcoast Energy.
Foothills’ Alaska Highway Pipeline Project is designed to move gas from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska to the lower 48 states.
The ANGTS route has been approved in both the United States and Canada, and is the subject of an international treaty between the Canadian and U.S. governments.
Calgary businessman Ken King has been named president and CEO of the Calgary Flames, replacing Ron Bremner.
Flames chairman Murray Edwards announced last week that Bremner had resigned and has been replaced by King, who is president of Walton International Group Inc. of Calgary.
King, 49, was previously publisher of the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun. He’s also currently active on a number of not-for-profit boards and committees. Bremner was at the Flames helm since May 1996 after a 23-year career in broadcasting and marketing.
Scott Tallman has assumed the helm of marketing, product management and technical services at Calgary-based SMART Technologies Inc.
Tallman was recently promoted to vice-president of marketing after working in a variety of roles at SMART, including marketing and product management.
The company’s director of products and channels for the past three years, Tallman began his career at SMART in 1993, soon after obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree in marketing and finance from the University of Calgary.
“In his more than eight years with SMART, Scott has made significant contributions to our outstanding success in the marketplace,” said Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and COO.
“With product vision and marketing savvy, he will be a valuable addition to the executive management team.”
Scott Grant has been appointed director of sales for ZooLink Communications Ltd. in Calgary.
Vancouver-based ZooLink recently opened branch offices across Canada, including one in Calgary.

Vancouver-based IT firm Evolve Technologies has hired Kim Hochstein to fill their Staffing Solutions Division in Calgary. Hochstein brings more than four years of sales experience to the company and will focus on placing IT professionals and help clients with short-term, long-term or permanent placements of clerical, sales and marketing or executive staff.

Alliance Pipeline Ltd. has appointed Paul Belliveau to the post of vice-president of finance and chief financial officer, effective Aug. 27. Belliveau brings 25 years of financial experience to the position, including 19 years with Mobil Oil Corporation.
At Mobil, he held a variety of positions in Canada, the United States and Indonesia, most recently as controller of Mobil Oil Canada, Ltd. He is a chartered accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from St. Mary’s University.

Gulf Indonesia Resources Limited has named Paul Warwick president, CEO and a director of Gulf Indonesia, replacing William Fanagan. Warwick was previously the president and managing director, Conoco Energy Nigeria Limited.
Conoco Inc. recently acquired a 72-per-cent interest in Gulf Indonesia as a result of its takeover of Gulf Canada Resources Limited.
Gulf Indonesia (NYSE:GRL), headquartered in Jakarta, is an independent upstream oil and gas company.

Canada’s largest private funder of Olympic winter sports has named two new vice-presidents to its executive management team.
Lee Warren is the new VP of business development for the Canadian Olympic Development Association (CODA). Lee, who held a similar post at Calgary wireless company Wi-LAN, will help develop further relationships with national winter sport organizations, governments and corporate Canada.
CODA has also named Garry Miller as VP of finance and administration. Miller is a chartered accountant who brings 10 years of sporting goods industry experience to CODA, held similar leadership roles with Graf Canada Ltd. and Yonex Canada Ltd.
Calgary-based CODA provides direct financial assistance to national sport organizations and operational support of facilities shared by top athletes and the public.
Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. of Calgary has named Lyle Skaien to the position of vice-president of operations. Skaien has more than 16 years experience in oil and gas operations.
