Sears Canada Inc. (TSX:SCC) has appointed David Merkley as senior vice-president and CFO. He has been interim CFO since Jan. 1. Merkley has been with Sears since 1979.
Sears Canada, with head office in Toronto, is a multi-channel retailer.
Mark Mullins will become the new executive director of the Fraser Institute starting Sept. 1. Mullins will replace co-founder Michael Walker, who will become president of the Fraser Institute Foundation and a senior research fellow.
Mullins has been director of Ontario policy studies in the institute's Ontario office since 2003.
Established in 1974, the Fraser Institute is an independent public policy organization with offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.
Grey Horse Capital Corp. (TSXV:GHC) says Stephen Headford has joined Equity Transfer Services Inc. (ETS) as business development vice-president. Headford also resigned as an independent director of Grey Horse Capital.
Grey Horse Capital, through its wholly owned subsidiary ETS, provides transfer agent services to issuers in the North American capital markets. Its head office is in Toronto.
Lakeport Brewing Income Fund has named Tony Hidalgo as its chief financial officer.
Hidalgo has more than 13 years of experience in finance, auditing and accounting, the beermaker said.
Lakeport (TSX:TFR.UN) has about 165 employees at its plant in Hamilton, where it also has its head office.
Cott Corp. (TSX:BCB, NYSE: COT) of Toronto, one of the world's largest suppliers of retailer-brand soft drinks, has hired Clyde Preslar as its new executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
For the past nine years, Preslar has been CFO of Lance Inc., a U.S.-based manufacturer of snack foods.
Pharmaceutical developer Dimethaid Research Inc. (TSX:DMX) has appointed Dan McKay to the newly created position of intellectual property vice-president.
McKay has more than eight years of experience in the pharmaceutical field, most recently with Janssen-Ortho Inc. (Johnson & Johnson).
Dimethaid is a Canadian pharmaceutical company headquartered in Markham that develops targeted therapeutic drugs.
Luxell Technologies Inc. says that chief financial officer Shantha Fernando has resigned and it has appointed Thomas Wallace to succeed him. Fernando, who spent nine years with Luxell, resigned due to "important family matters," said the flat-panel display-maker (TSX:LUX), which is based in Mississauga.
SouthernEra Diamonds Inc. has announced the resignation of Patrick Evans as president and CEO. Alasdair MacPhee, executive VP, has been appointed to those posts until the company has completed a search for a successor to Evans.
Evans has served as president and CEO since 2001 and will resume the role of a non-executive director of SouthernEra.
Toronto-based SouthernEra is an integrated diamond company with exploration in six countries.
