Business executives believe the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 have forced them to dramatically reassess their ability to deal with security threats.

A new report by risk consulting firm Kroll shows that prior to the attacks, information protection and employee integrity were the top security priorities. Now, a survey of executives shows emergency planning, business resumption planning and physical security top the biggest concerns.

“While the shift in emphasis is not surprising, the incredible size of the shift is really noteworthy,” says Bob Macdonald, regional manager for Kroll Canada. “The survey results clearly demonstrate that business has received a wake-up call, and that the wake-up call was necessary.”

About 100 executives were surveyed in October at Kroll security seminars in Toronto, Boston and New York.
