Edmonton-based Shear Minerals Ltd. has named Jennifer Burgess as project manager for the Churchill Diamond Project in the northern territory of Nunavut.

Burgess previously worked with Kennecott Canada Exploration Inc. and Diavik Diamond Mines Inc., where she participated in the discovery and development of the Diavik Diamond Mine at Lac de Gras, N.W.T.

Shear Minerals (SRM-TSXV) is an exploration company focusing on diamond exploration in the Canadian North.

A veteran of the print media industry has joined the communications section of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.

Scott Pattison will assist with the writing and preparation of AUPE member publications and the union’s website. AUPE, which represents 50,000 workers in Alberta, is the province’s largest union.

Ken McCullough is the new chief executive of Calgary Co-operative Association Ltd.

McCullough, who assumes his responsibilities as CEO in May, is a former Winnipeg region manager for Federated Co-operatives Ltd. He also held senior roles with grocery co-ops in Grande Prairie and Carman, Man.

He replaces Darwin Flathers, who has acted as interim CEO since early March. Flathers will resume his post as vice-president, capital investment and development.

Calgary Co-op is one of the largest retail co-operatives in North America with 18 retail shopping centres, 22 gas bars, 11 liquor stores and 11 travel agencies in Calgary, Airdrie and Strathmore.

Dinesh Dattani is the new vice-president of finance and CFO of Canoro Resources Ltd. (CNS-TSXV).

Dattani has more than 25 years of corporate experience, principally with upstream oil and gas companies with operations in the international arena and Canada.

He is also the incoming chairman of the United Way of Calgary and Area board of directors.

Canoro is a Calgary-based international energy company focused on the exploration, development and production of oil and gas.

Vince Smith is stepping down as president and chief executive officer of Dow Chemical Canada Inc.

Smith announced his intention to retire on July 1 after 32 years with the Calgary-based firm. He has been president and CEO for three years.

Smith joined Dow Canada in Sarnia, Ont., as an engineer in 1972. He held many management positions with the company, including senior roles in Sarnia and Fort Saskatchewan.

A successor will be announced at a later date.

Dow Chemical Canada Inc., a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Co., employs about 2,000 people in Canada.

They are:

* Roland Bellrose of Bragg Creek, CEO of Niche Publishing Inc.

* Joe Fardell of Calgary, president of Tourism Calgary since February 2001.

* Doug McPhee of Jasper, VP of Jasper Tourism and Commerce.

* Elizabeth Scotton of Edmonton, with Edmonton Airports’ passenger market development.
