Calgary-based Arvic Search Services has launched a new Internet service designed to help small companies and home-based businesses compete in the global e-commerce arena.
The service, ArvicSecure, helps these small businesses take their products online without a heavy investment in equipment, software or staff. The site doesn’t have to accept U.S. dollars and doesn’t have to apply for a new merchant account.
With ArvicSecure, credit card numbers and personal information on the customer are not stored, saved or viewed by anyone during or after the real-time transaction.
This database-free process provides the consumer with a secure method of online shopping, said Victor Arcuri, president of Arvic Search Services Inc.
“We don’t save or store any of the credit card information passed to us,” said Arcuri. Instead, ArvicSecure has a “back door” allowing the company to access a credit card company directly using the transaction number only.
Arcuri noted the traditional process allows credit card numbers to be viewed by employees, saved on paper or in a computer database.
“The actual transaction is very secure, but the handling and storing of the credit card information is where the risk comes in.”
Small businesses may not be able to afford expensive firewalls to keep hackers out; this precaution is not needed with ArvicSecure, Arcuri said.
Arvic Search Services, which has been in business for 18 years, specializes in electronic document filing, corporate paralegal, trademark, credit card processing, web design and domain name registrar services.
